Living in Light

City street with cobblestones.

Good morning! This week we read about unity in the body, gifts given to the church, and using our gifts for God’s glory. Today we will continue in Ephesians chapter four and read on being a light. Enjoy today’s reading and your weekend.

Bible Verses – Ephesians 4:17-19 NLT

“17 With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. 19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.”

Reflection

Apostle Paul began these verses with imagery of what a believer should avoid. He used non-believing Gentiles as an example. He shared how they were far from living a holy life, and from a relationship with God. Their insensitivity to God gave way for them to self indulge without remorse and practice impurity, greed, and self-gratification with greater desire to want more without regard for others.

Apostle Paul noted, this is not how believers should be or behave. We will read more on this on Monday.

In the meantime, sisters and brothers, God has more in store for us than the world could ever offer. Today and this weekend ponder on these verses and ask God to reveal any of those characteristics that may have you in bondage, and ask Him to set you free.

Prayer

Father God, we love and thank you for the freedom we have in You. You have taken us from darkness and placed us into the light, and given us peace in our hearts. Lord, forgive us for the times when we sinned against you (willingly and unknowingly). Lord, we are sorry for the times we grieved the Holy Spirit and fell short of the Spirit leading us to do better. Lord, keep working in us, maturing us, and transforming us to align ourselves with Your will and purpose.

Lord, be with those who are ill. Comfort the people and families who have been devastated by medical reports and diagnoses. Lord, comfort them and give them hope. Strengthen them for the road ahead and don’t let them lose sight of you.

Lord, continue to cover our children in this world. Lord, comfort the parents who have lost their children to violence. Lord, it seems so senseless and painful that any parent would go through that, but we know this was not your original plan for us. Lord, please help us to end these violent acts in our country and around the world.

Lord, be with us today as we walk in the light and carry it for the world to see. Keep our eyes on You. In Jesus’ name, amen!
