Good morning! We will continue our reading in the book of James chapter three. Today’s verse will cover one of the three areas that wisdom is characterized by. Character one is humility. Join me as we focus on cultivating our thoughts with wisdom and humility.
Bible Verse – James 3:13 NLT
“If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.”
Reflection
Again, James challenges the believer to reflect on a question and answer with sincerity. His call for believers to examine themselves is not overlooked in this book or these verses. He basically asks, “Among you, who is wise and understanding?”
To answer that question, a person would need to know how James describes the words wise and understanding. He used the Greek word for wise, which describes a person with moral insight and skill in practical issues of life. Whereas understanding is intellectual perception and scientific acumen.
His second challenge to the believer was with four simple words “let him show it.” The application of wisdom and understanding is what James was seeking to see from believers. Applying truth to life is best seen through humility.
Humility and wisdom are good characteristics. Remember, James chapter one verse five, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God”. Ask God for wisdom and understanding, and with that to be humble with what He gives.
Prayer
Father God, thank you for today. Thank you for your grace and mercy. Thank you for blessing us with your love. Lord, we don’t deserve all the things you have blessed us with, but we are so grateful. Thank you for salvation and mercy. Help us to continue to grow in spiritual maturity.
Lord, today we ask for wisdom and understanding. We ask that as you bless us with such a great gift, that you also keep us humble as we apply action/deed to the wisdom that you provide. Lord, help us to use that wisdom to help advance your kingdom and to help others. Lord, give us understanding in how to use your provisions in this world to bring you glory in our day-to-day lives.
Lord, we pray for a hedge of protection over the children in this world. Keep them safe as they travel to and from school. Cover them and give them wisdom and teach them to apply it with humility. Lord, be with each parent/guardian as they send their kids off into the world. Lord, give them peace as they trust you with the child(ren)/gifts you have given them.
Lord, be with the lady who is getting a kidney transplant today. Lord, be with her in her travels and while she is in surgery. Lord, direct the hands of the doctor and medical providers. Lord, help her body to accept the new kidney and for her to recover well. Lord, be with the mother who is still in a coma and heal her. We pray for the family that was diagnosed with a medical illness and we ask that you touch them and ease their symptoms. We pray for those who had surgery and we ask that you continue to help them heal. Lord, they need you to reduce pain, improve nutrition, increase blood flow, and give them strength.
Lord, we continue to pray for those who are seeking employment and opportunities for improvement. Lord, open up doors and bless them with employment that will provide for them and their families financially. Lord, You are the great provider, help them.
In Jesus name we pray, amen!
