He Continued His Defense

Good morning! We will continue our reading in second Corinthians chapter 11 with Apostle Paul continuing his defense against the false prophets in Corinth.

Bible Verse – 2 Corinthians 11:1-15 NLT

“11 I hope you will put up with a little more of my foolishness. Please bear with me.For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride[a] to one husband—Christ. But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.

But I don’t consider myself inferior in any way to these “super apostles” who teach such things. I may be unskilled as a speaker, but I’m not lacking in knowledge. We have made this clear to you in every possible way.

Was I wrong when I humbled myself and honored you by preaching God’s Good News to you without expecting anything in return?I “robbed” other churches by accepting their contributions so I could serve you at no cost. And when I was with you and didn’t have enough to live on, I did not become a financial burden to anyone. For the brothers who came from Macedonia brought me all that I needed. I have never been a burden to you, and I never will be. 10 As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, no one in all of Greece[b] will ever stop me from boasting about this. 11 Why? Because I don’t love you? God knows that I do.

12 But I will continue doing what I have always done. This will undercut those who are looking for an opportunity to boast that their work is just like ours. 13 These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.”

Prayer

Father God, thank you for sending your son Jesus so that we can be saved. We thank you for the gospel message that tells us how to be saved, and live a life aligned to your word. We thank you for the preachers, ministers, speakers that speak and teach your word with truth and conviction. Lord, continue your work in our lives so that we may grow in your word and truth. Lord, continue to encourage us as we abide in you. Strengthen our faith and give us the peace we need each day.

Lord, comfort those who have lost a loved one. Help those who are navigating end of life situations with loved ones – comfort them and give them peace. Lord, be with those impacted by terminal cancer and help them to see you in the midst of their pain and grief. Lord, comfort them and hold them. Lord, we continue to pray for the widows and orphans – comfort and provide for them, the sick and unhoused – heal them and provide stability. We pray for the family units and the single moms and dads, the married couples, and guardians as they raise children in this world. Lord, we pray for the man who will be going to court this week. Lord, we ask that you give him favor in the court room. Lord, we pray for his family and mom as they wait for a decision to be made.

Lord, we continue to pray for those in need of physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual healing. Lord, anchor them to your word, bring other faithful Christian’s alongside them to help them through their difficulties. Lord, wherever we are weak in our relationship with you, make us strong. Lord, wherever we may lack in mental clarity, give us wisdom and make it clear. Lord, whenever we feel discouraged, remind us of your greatness and help us to feel you near. Redirect our minds and bind the enemy from trying to discourage or distract us with lies. Lord, cover us with your peace and give us understanding. In Jesus name, amen.
