Good morning! It’s nice to be back writing and posting after a much needed vacation. Today, we will finish our reading in 2 Corinthians chapter 10 which further details Paul confronting the false apostles in Corinthians.
Bible Verse – 2 Corinthians 10:13-18 NLT
“13 We will not boast about things done outside our area of authority. We will boast only about what has happened within the boundaries of the work God has given us, which includes our working with you. 14 We are not reaching beyond these boundaries when we claim authority over you, as if we had never visited you. For we were the first to travel all the way to Corinth with the Good News of Christ.
15 Nor do we boast and claim credit for the work someone else has done. Instead, we hope that your faith will grow so that the boundaries of our work among you will be extended. 16 Then we will be able to go and preach the Good News in other places far beyond you, where no one else is working. Then there will be no question of our boasting about work done in someone else’s territory. 17 As the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”
18 When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.
Reflection
Apostle Paul had noted that the false prophets had overstepped and exaggerated their accomplishments. Apostle Paul had to remind them and the church that the church in Corinth was a result of his ministry. God had authenticated Paul’s mission by the fruit that was produced in the Corinthian church.
Apostle Paul did not desire to boast, but he had to remind the people of the work that was initially done among them, and the desire for them to mature in faith so that the true gospel will flourish among them. He didn’t need to commend himself, because he knew all the work that was done within the Corinthian church was entirely due to God’s grace. This was truly a call for the church to mature and get itself back in order so that the gospel will continue to spread, which would allow Apostle Paul to expand the ministry beyond Corinth.
Sisters and brothers, sometimes as leaders we have to teach, coach, mentor and develop others. The goal is to get the other person to a place of maturity or self-sufficiency so that a project moves forward without you needing to be in every detail and also so you can continue to work on other important matters. This is what Paul was attempting to do, but false prophets were trying to derail the progress he had made.
In the church and in life, there will be people who will attempt to derail your progress, journey, and your walk with Christ – intentionally or unintentionally. Sisters and brothers, don’t get distracted or discouraged. Continue to follow Christ and His word.
Prayer
Father God, thank you for your love toward us. Thank you for your grace and mercy in our lives. Lord, you have been our anchor when the world and our lives were shaken and you continue to hold us steady each day. Lord, your work in our lives has given us strength and peace when the world is filled with chaos and is unpredictable. Lord, we ask for your continued peace and guidance as we navigate our time here on earth. Lord, we want to be your hands and feet in this world. Use us, mature us, and give us the wisdom we need to share the truth of your word daily. Lord, as we apply your word to our lives, help us to live it out in truth and our actions. Lord, don’t let us fall victim to anger and rebel, but awaken us to what you are doing and what you desire for us to do in your name.
Lord, be with each reader and their families today. Lord, provide for them, protect them, and give them peace. Lord, we pray for those who are in physical and mental pain, and we ask that you remove the pain they are feeling or going through. Lord, touch the bodies of those who are still recovering from surgery. Lord, heal them. Lord, be with those who are battling cancer and/or going through treatment and we ask that you sustain and comfort them. Lord, continue to keep your hedge of protection around all the children in the world. Keep them safe, but let them also know who you are. Lord, we pray for those in need of employment or are seeking new job opportunities. Lord, open doors for those in need of work. Lord, move their applications and resumes to the top of the list and give them favor in their interviews. Lord, do mighty work in work environments. Transform work environments so that toxic areas will become clean and healthy environments to work in and allow workers to flourish. Lord, do the same in our churches and homes.
In Jesus name, amen!
