Good morning! Have you ever noticed something that was shinny? There are times when shinny things are too bright to look at and other times they are so mesmerizing that we can’t turn away or forget them. Today, we will discuss a light that shines in darkness. Join me as we continue our reading in 2 Corinthians chapter four.

Bible Verse – 2 Corinthians 4:5-6 NLT

“5 You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.”

Reflection

Paul consistently reminded the people, that their message wasn’t about him or the people he was with. Paul’s focus was on preaching ‘Jesus Christ is Lord’. Paul goes on to explain that Jesus is the light that shines in us so that we may know God.

In Luke chapter two Simeon reminds us that Jesus is a light: 

“28 Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, 29 “Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. 30 I have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared for all people. 32 He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!””

Jesus came as the greatest light in all humanity  and revealed God to all nations. That light is now within our hearts for the entire world to see. While we may be in dark places or the world may appear to be dark, we are lights to those who do not know Christ. We are lights to our brothers and sisters when they are going through a rough time, we are lights in the work place, in our homes and wherever we go.

Sisters and brothers, no matter how many cuts and bruises that you have experienced in your lifetime, God can use those cuts to shine bright for His glory. See if you know anything about a diamond, it’s not just the diamond that makes a ring sparkle it is the unique cuts within the diamond that catches the light and it reflects. While the light continues to travel through the diamond it is scattered through the cuts which creates a grander sparkle. The reflection, refraction and dispersion creates the shine that we see, the shine that captures our eyes. Sisters and brothers as we become a reflection of Christ and as His light shines through our cuts and the brokenness of our past, we will see Him work within us in such a way that dispersion of the light within our hearts will be brilliantly displaced so that others will see Him in us. 

As we sparkle and shine for the world to see Christ within us, shine bright and bold like a 12 carat diamond radiant cut. Allow the light of Christ to shine in and through you.  Be bold. Be bright.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ to be a light unto the world. Lord, thank you for forgiveness of sins, redemption and restoration. Lord, shine brightly in our hearts, through all of our cuts and bruises so that others can see your brilliant light reflected in our lives. Lord, heal us and make us whole from the things that tried to break us, but never let us forget how you saved us while we were in our darkest moments. Lord, you are the Alpha and Omega. You know the beginning and end of our stories. Lord we trust you right now with the in between. Lord, stretch us beyond where we are today and let us grow more intimately and closer to you. Lord, shine brightly in and through us. Help us to be a light for others.

Lord, work all your might in our homes, our marriages, our children and our parents. Lord, purify our homes and let your peace overflow in and throughout it. Let it be a refuge and place we always feel your presence. Lord, bind the enemy’s attempts to destroy our families and relationships. Lord, help us to stand firm on your word. Heal those with chronic medical conditions. Lord, minimize or completely stop the medical related flare-ups. Heal brain injuries and trauma. Heal the woman who is currently in the hospital. Comfort those who are going through cancer treatments or preparing for treatment. Lord, touch their body and heal them. Lord, decrease their cancer numbers and remove their cancer. Lord, comfort their families and help them to trust you more. Help those who are in financial need. Lord, provide safe refuge for the unhoused and protection for those suffering from abuse. Lord, awaken us to see the things that concern you and help us to make a difference in this world.
