Good morning! About a month ago, I overheard a conversation that had happened on my street. A young man came outside to help a woman and he asked, “do you need help?” The woman continued to search for an item that she was looking for and responded with an incomplete answer, “umm, I’m looking for… umm, I…”, but she wasn’t clear in her reply. The young man finally said, “do you need help, yes or no?” In that moment, it was clear that he wanted a definitive answer, a one word response. It seemed simple enough at the moment, but I think sometimes our scattered thinking requires us to pause enough to process a response or conversation. Today, we will continue our reading in James chapter one with James’ instruction to ask God.
Bible Verse – James 1:5-8 NLT
“5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.”
Reflection
Sisters and brothers, sometimes we already have the wisdom to know what to do, but we search around for answers from other people until we feel confident enough in their response or we allow them to give us freedom to change what we already know we need to do. Don’t let that be the case for you.
- Stand in faith – Faith in God alone
- This will help you to stop. Steady your mind to remove the other thoughts and clear the enemy’s mind games out of your head.
- Ask God for wisdom and knowledge.
- Knowledge alone is helpful, but wisdom is the key. It’s easy to know things, but wisdom helps with discernment, discipline, action, timing, and understanding.
- Everyone has an opinion. Stick to God’s. Remember “staying power” and His thoughts of loving kindness towards you.
Prayer
Father God, thank you for this new day. Thank you for an opportunity to see you at work in our lives – fighting for us, covering us, defending us, and helping us. Lord, you are not only in our corner, but you go before us working all things out on our behalf. Making conversations occur behind closed doors that favor us. Waking leaders up to remember us. Lord, your protection, justice, grace and mercy is what we seek.
Lord, give us wisdom today. Wisdom to know what to do. Give us faith to trust you above all things and not be divided in our loyalty to you. Lord, when you give us the wisdom help us to know without a doubt that you are speaking or moving on our behalf. Help us to stand in obedience and not be a hindrance to your plan. Lord, help us to be stable in every way possible.
Lord, we pray for the woman who has had a difficult week. Lord, we pray for her in this time where she feels alone and unsure. Lord, first with pray for you to strengthen her resolve and faith in you. Lord, in the name of Jesus, we bind and rebuke the enemy and his followers from any plot or assignment that they have against her. Lord, send your army of angels to surround her, protect, and keep her safe. Lord, we pray for favor on her today, this week, in her assignments, and everyone she comes in contact with. May Your wisdom become her wisdom today to help her make the best decisions and be successful.
Lord, we pray for the mother who lost her child under suspicious circumstances. Lord, we pray for the truth to be revealed, acknowledged, and for justice to prevail for the family and other victims in similar situations. Lord, where there is division and anger, give us understanding and unity in your name. Lord, remove all the false testimonies and let the truth be exposed with factual evidence.
Lord, we pray for our country and the state of our nation’s affairs. Lord, I know your word has informed us about end times and the state of people, but Lord it has been a lot. Lord, people are struggling financially, mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Lord, it has been trial after trial, and we need things to turn around or workout for our good. Lord, whatever the enemy has plotted against innocent people, we ask that you destroy every plot. Help end racism, violence against children, trafficking, abuse, and murder. Help us to re-write or establish laws that hold people accountable for their actions and crimes against humanity.
Lord, we pray for the family unit. Lord, heal every household that is broken. Lord, heal marriages that are under strain. Lord, touch every child and adult child, heal them from their trauma. Lord, break cycles that destroy and strain families. Lord, heal those who’ve had to endure abuse, neglect, or were orphaned. Lord, reset their hearts, thoughts, and eyes to soften and focus on you. Lord, help heal the family member who tried to be the bridge to save their family or members of their family. Lord, give them wisdom and insight on how to give you control over the situation; and be able to faithfully trust you and live in Your peace.
Lord, we pray for the man, husband, father, dad, or uncle to surrender their lives to you. Lord, we pray for them to have a relationship with you and follow you. May their relationship with you be evident in their homes, marriages, parenting, church, job, and family. Lord, let their relationships and choices be driven by obedience to you and your word, and undivided by the world’s opinions or their own desires. Lord, equip them in their areas of weakness and blind spots. Make them strong in you as they lead their homes, and other things or people who you have given them charge over.
Lord, help those seeking employment find it, and may it be a blessing to them and their family. Lord, continue to heal those who are not well. Lord, touch them and make them whole.
Lord, thank you for the prayers that you have answered. You are so good.
In Jesus name, we pray for all these things. Amen.
