They Were False

Good morning! Join us as we continue our reading in second Corinthians where Apostle Paul continues to confront the false apostles.

Bible verse – 2 Corinthians 10:7-12 NLT

Look at the obvious facts.[b] Those who say they belong to Christ must recognize that we belong to Christ as much as they do. I may seem to be boasting too much about the authority given to us by the Lord. But our authority builds you up; it doesn’t tear you down. So I will not be ashamed of using my authority.

I’m not trying to frighten you by my letters. 10 For some say, “Paul’s letters are demanding and forceful, but in person he is weak, and his speeches are worthless!”11 Those people should realize that our actions when we arrive in person will be as forceful as what we say in our letters from far away.

12 Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!”

Reflection

Apostle Paul continued to share who he was appointed by in comparison to who the false apostles claim their appointment was designated by. The false apostles tried to deny Paul’s ability to actually lead to make themselves look better. Apostle Paul was certainly unimpressed by the false prophets evaluation of themselves against his work. The false prophets claimed to teach on righteousness and Apostle Paul disputed their teachings as false.

Sisters and brothers, apostle Paul’s commitment to the church was not for show. His commitment was to Christ alone, and that love overflowed to the Corinthian church and to other churches in the New Testament. He demonstrated his authenticity through correction, love, and reminding them of Christ – the gospel message. May we always be mindful of the word of God, and read the scriptures ourselves. May we always seek the word of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit to see truth in a world filled with untruths.

Prayer

Father God, we thank you for another day. We thank you for loving us. Thank you for leading us back to you when we were side tracked by other things or other people. Lord, thank you for your grace and mercy over our lives. You never hesitate or contradict your words or love for us. Lord, we pray for our churches and church leaders around the world. Lord, we pray for every representative of you to lead in truth and lives fully surrounded to you. Lord, awaken pastors, church leaders, and the church to align themselves with the gospel message and not their own self seeking ambitions. Lord, help those who have been hurt by church members to see beyond the human aspect and see you. Lord, you are the only perfect one. Continue to work in us and transform us daily.

Lord, be with those who have lost family members. Lord, comfort them and give them the peace and strength that they need today. Lord, be with those who are ill or battling a disease or life threatening illness. Lord, heal their bodies and reduce the pain they fill. Lord, be with the man who is preparing for surgery this week. Lord, strengthen the men and women going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Lord, be with us today as we go out as sheep amongst wolves, and help us to see you at work in the world. Lord, protect us and keep us in your perfect peace. Help us to keep our eyes, hearts, and minds steadfast on you and your truth.

In Jesus name, amen!
