Good morning! Today, we will finish James chapter one with a focus to remain committed to the Word of God.
Bible Verse – James 1:26-27
“26 If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. 27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.”
Reflection
For the past week and a half, we’ve been reading James chapter one. The focus of the verse addressed our attitude in trials, the advantage of trials, and assistance for trials. James walked us through temptations by reminding us of the source, steps, and solutions to resist temptations. Finally, we read on being receptive to the Word of God, being responsive to it, and today verses 26-27 tells us to remain committed to the Word of God.
Commitment to obedience and practice of following God’s Word is a lifestyle change. God, will transform believers in ways they have never imagined – if we let Him.
Religious rituals are not the main focus in these verses, the focus is the conduct of believers. Mainly, a person’s refined character and conduct become byproducts of living out the Word of God. Controlled speech produces improved conversations and it is a good witness of God’s continued work in believers. Another area of improvement is how believers treat those who are left out, abandoned, or neglected – the least, the lost, and last/left out. When the hearts of believers begin to look more like Christ, helping others who are in need becomes second nature – compassion for others.
Overall, the goal for us is to mature as Christians. As we remain rooted in the Word of God, we create staying faith that allows us to stand in trials and not stumble in temptation. Being Anchored to God’s Word – His truth and applying it daily will help us to stand firm and believe God will see us through each trial. All while transforming us daily.
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for your love and mercy toward us. We thank you for the trials that you have brought us through. We thank you for maturing us in our faith and trust in you. Lord, continue to mature and strengthen us through your Word and as we apply it in our lives.
Lord, give us discernment in our speech, our thoughts, and in our actions. Lord, help us to be a good reflection of you in this world.
Lord, we continue our prayers for the woman in the hospital. Lord, you know every detail of her medical situation. Lord, we are asking for supernatural healing. Lord, touch her body and make her well. Lord, we pray for the women who had surgery on their legs and toes. Lord, help the blood to circulate well and heal their incisions, bones, and body. Lord, we pray for the men and women going through cancer treatments and we ask that you comfort them and give them the treatments that they need to remove their cancer.
Lord, comfort the grieving. Lord, protect children around the world. Lord, cease the wars. Restore the innocent who have been impacted by the wars. Lord, don’t let the world corrupt us – heal our nation and align it to You. In Jesus name, amen.
