Good morning! There are times when we forget things that we have experienced in our past. Sometimes it is easier to forget the good things and it almost takes a lifetime to forget the bad. As we continue in 1 Corinthians chapter 10, we read verses where we are called to remember a good thing. Join me today as we read verses 14-18. Have a wonderful day.
Bible Verse – 1 Corinthians 10:14-18 NLT
“14 So, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols. 15 You are reasonable people. Decide for yourselves if what I am saying is true. 16 When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren’t we sharing in the body of Christ? 17 And though we are many, we all eat from one loaf of bread, showing that we are one body. 18 Think about the people of Israel. Weren’t they united by eating the sacrifices at the altar?”
Reflection
Paul begins verses 14 through 17 with a warning to flee idolatry (idols of sexual immorality, etc.), then goes on to share examples of what unity within the church (one body in Christ) looks like when the church fellowships with one another. However, he takes it a step further so that we can see the significance in the unity of the body through the remembrance of the Lord’s supper. The important fact that we should remember is that we (those who believe and accept Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior) all have received grace and forgiveness through the blood of Christ and are invited to participate in the body of Christ.
Dr. Jerry Winfield wrote in his article titled A Call to Remembrance – The Lord’s supper, “Observing the Lord’s Supper carries personal significance because Jesus calls us to remember that He gave His body “for you.” It also carries personal responsibility for us to participate with reverence, humility, and sincerity, understanding and proclaiming Christ’s great act of love. Paul said that our observance of the Lord’s Supper is to be done to help us to remember Christ. Perhaps we are never more the church, the bride of Christ, than when we gather at the table to worship by remembering Him. May we never forget.”Dr. Winfield’s full article can be found on this weblink: https://www.lifeway.com/en/articles/sermon-a-call-to-remember-the-lords-supper-luke-22
Sisters and brothers, the Lord is calling us to be the church. He is calling us to unity in him. Today, remember the significance of what Christ did for us. Remember the freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, because of the cross and the empty tomb.
- Do you remember the day you said yes to the Lord?
- What was significant about that day?
Prayer
Father God, thank you for another opportunity to serve you in spirit and in true. Thank you for being with us as we continue to grow in your word and in faith. Lord, you know the idols that we still have problems letting go of. Lord, will you point them out to us so that we will turn away from them. Lord, be with us and help us to discern against the things that draw us away from you. Lord, help us to remember your sacrifice on the cross and the freedom we now have in you. Lord, help us to understand the significance of that freedom and help us to walk in it unashamed. Lord, show us how to love others as you love us and to unite with other Christians who are living their lives for You. Lord, teach us to love the lost, least and the last. Show us how to encourage them to stand fast in their faith. Continue to work within us and change us. In Jesus name, amen.
Keep praying! Keep Trusting! Keep believing!
