Good morning! This devotion picks up after Matthew 16 verses 27-28, which Jesus shared that some standing with Him would not die before they saw the Son of man coming in His kingdom.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 17:1-3 NLT
“1Six days later Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. 2 As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light. 3 Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus.”
A few things to point out:
• Transfigured/Transform means changed in form. We can find the word also in Romans 12:2; 2 Cor. 3:18
• His glory – face shone like the sun and clothes became white as light
• Two Old Testament people Moses and Elijah are talking with Jesus. In Luke 9:32, Luke describes Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus about His coming death.
• Some commentaries suggest in this “The disciples represent individuals who will be present in physical bodies. Moses represents saved individuals who have died or will die. Elijah represents saved individuals who will not experience death, but will be caught up to heaven alive (1 Thes. 4:17). The three groups will be present when Christ institutes His kingdom on earth.”
Brothers and sisters, whether we are ready or not, Jesus is coming back to establish His kingdom here on earth. As the saying goes ‘stay ready so you don’t have to get ready’.
Spend time with the Lord today. Follow Him.
Prayer
Father God, in the name of Jesus we come to you in faith believing you hear and answer prayer. Lord, we don’t know what will happen today or within the next hour, but what we do know is that we want to be with you when you return. Lord, prepare our hearts and minds to surrender our lives and our will to you. Lord, transform us so that we will be more like you. Lord, equip us and reveal to us all the things that you desire for us to understand. Lord, we want to experience your presence in our lives, in our homes, on our jobs, in our schools, with our families, in our churches, with our friends, and in our communities. Lord, we invite you into all these spaces – come in and make yourself known. Lord, begin or continue your mighty work in us.
Lord, we pray for everyone impacted by the floods in Texas and North Carolina. Lord, be with the families who lost their loved ones. Lord, help those who lost their homes, vehicles, and hope. Lord, strengthen them through during this difficult time and comfort them in ways only you can. Lord, we pray for those who are sick and we ask for your healing touch. We pray for those who are tired and we ask for renewed energy and strength. Lord, continue to work in and through us as we lean on you for peace, patience, and discernment. Direct our steps and don’t let us be double- minded in our relationship with you. Keep us focused on your word and help us to live it out in truth. Don’t let us be pulled away from your teachings by false gods, idols, or religious practices that don’t align to your truth. Help us to stand firm in our faith, in love for you and others, and live it out unapologetically.
In Jesus name we pray, amen!

Good morning Ms. Mary, Thank you for the daily devotional. What does it mean “don’t let us be double- minded in our relationship with you.” ?

Good morning, Marisela. In that prayer – what I meant was – don’t let us say we follow Him, but then turn around and follow idols or practices that are not in alignment to Him or His word.
Some people say they are Christians and follow other traditional religions and sometimes practice both, and that is not Biblical.
