Greed Can Destroy Your Sight

Good morning! Last week we talked about the Pharisees attitude about building treasures on earth, but we learned that they are subject to rust, rot, and decay, whereas if we set our treasures in heaven they can never be destroyed. Let’s continue reading how the Pharisees continued to cause them problems.

BIBLE VERSE  – Matthew 6:22-23 NLT
“22 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!”

REFLECTION

The Pharisees had a spiritual eye condition/disease where they focused their eyes on money and wealth. They were controlled by money and they served money instead of serving God. They were living in darkness and were failing to live in true worship with God.

These verse continue to point out the condition of their eyes was also a condition of their heart. As we’ve read before, Jesus is the light. John 8:12 states:

“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.””

Brothers and sisters, allow the Lord to shine His light in and through you. Be careful of the things that may lead you to dark places, greed, thoughts, and action. Remain focused on your spiritual health in Christ Jesus. Exam yourself and make sure the light you give is the Lord’s light that shines through us.

Don’t become fooled like the Pharisees setting up their own lighting  with treasures stored on earth, or prayers that are lofty but not sincere – so that people could see them better; instead ask the Lord to shine His light in and through you so that others can see Him better and see his grace upon your life.

PRAYER

May the Lord open our eyes so that we can see things as He does. May our eyes remain healthy as we keep our eyes focused on Him and kingdom things. May we seek God’s guidance on what we (His children) should do when our eyes see things that break His heart. Father God, you are our light. You are the One who can brighten any place or situation. Your peace illuminates our soul. Your truth/word opens our eyes to see clearly. Lord, there is no darkness in you. Lord, help us to see and feel your light. Lord, help us to hold onto you when things seem dark around us. Lord, reveal to us areas of darkness within us and remove it. Lord, just rip it out. Lord, we pray for those battling darkness. Lord, we pray for those fighting depression. Lord, we pray for those who are lost and struggling with their grief or pain. Lord, today, we ask for you to comfort and heal them. Lord, help us to feel your presence wherever we are and wherever we go. Lord, restore our hope daily. Lord, give us strength and equip us to stand against darkness and trust you to take control. Lord, pour out your light into our eyes so that it will fill our entire body. Lord, don’t let one area of our lives be without light, Your light. Lord, help us to see you. Lord, equip us to use the gifts you have given us to shine light on the dark things in this world and expose the truth. Lord, be with us today. Help us to see with your eyes. Change us Lord. In Jesus name, amen.
