Your Heart Will Also Be

Good morning! I don’t watch a lot of television, but I am intrigued by shows on HGTV and the Discovery channel. The shows that focus on discoveries of ancient ruins/cities and the search of lost treasures capture my attention. I often ponder on the things people left behind or that they were buried with, and I think about how significant it was to someone at that time. In some cases, the discoveries do not hold much value or significance for the reseacher/pirate who uncovers the treasure, but it certainly provides suspense and history about civilization at that time. Today’s verses are similar. Enjoy.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 6:19-21 NLT

“19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

REFLECTION

Again Jesus focused on the condition of the heart – the desires and wishes that we center are life on. In these verses on the Sermon of the Mount, He reminds us of the wasteful lure of setting our eye on material things that won’t save our lives, and yet we put them before the Savior the One who came to give us eternal life.

When this life is over, what value will those material things have for you?

Brothers and sisters, if you are going to leave a treasure behind, let it be a legacy of love for the Lord. Let it be one that leads others to Christ so that you will see your loved one, your neighbor or stranger on the street in the Kingdom of heaven.

Here are a few questions to ponder on today and over the weekend.

If your heart was a treasure box, what would be inside? _______

Will people find love for the Lord and the things that concern him? ______

It’s not too late to make a change and focus on a treasure that never loses value – your relationship with the Lord and the things that concern Him. Start today.

PRAYER

Father God, thank you for your daily provisions. Thank you for standing in the gap for our needs. Lord, you know our hearts and everything we have in them. Lord, clean our hearts and forgive us. Help us to seek your will and follow you. Lord, help us to store our treasures in heaven. Lord, if our treasure is our children, help us to raise them in the way that they should go, so that they will understand your truth and your word. Lord, if our treasure is our marriage and/or family, help us to explain the gospel message to them, encourage them to have a relationship with you, pray for them daily, and direct them to you always. Lord, if our treasures are our possessions, help us to release our treasures to you and allow you to guide us on where to use the finances or other gifts/talents/items that you have given us. Lord, help us to give freely as you guide and direct us to give and help others. Lord, we want our treasures to be stored in heaven. Lord, strengthen our relationship with you. Lord, equip us with your love and mercy toward others. Lord, change us to be more like you. In Jesus name, amen.
