Good morning! Today we will finish our reading on the parable of the three servants. Yesterday, we read the response that the master gave two of the three servants. Join me as finish reading the story of the third servant. Have a wonderful day.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 25:24-30 NLT
“24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’
26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, 27 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’
28 “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. 30 Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’”
REFLECTION
In the case of this servant, we read a different response from the master.
- Wicked and lazy.
- The master took his money back from the servant who didn’t do anything with it.
- He had the money taken away from that servant and gave it to the one who was faithful.
- The master called the servant useless.
Sisters and brothers, the master said in verse 29, “To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance.” In due time we will need to give an account for the things the Lord has given us.May I encourage you to use well what the Lord has given you. Don’t be wicked, lazy or useless, be a faithful servant and follower of the Lord in proportion to the abilities that He has given you.
Will you use what the Lord has given you to bring others to the knowledge of knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior? If so, how do you plan to do that? If you aren’t sure, pray about it and ask the Lord to use you or commit to what the Lord has already called you to do.
PRAYER
Father God, it is so easy to give up and stay in our own little bubble. It’s so easy to do a kind act, but not have a personal relationship with you. However, Lord, we don’t want to live our lives that way anymore. Lord, forgive us for the times when we have been wicked, lazy and useless. Lord, we want to follow you with our whole heart and live abundantly in you. Lord, equip us with your love for others. Break our hearts for what breaks yours. Show and tell us where and how you want us to use the gifts, talents/money and our lives for you. Lord, when we are off track, course correct us. When we are in our selves remind us of Your selfless sacrifice on the cross for our sins so that we would be forgiven. Lord, no one is perfect but you, but in you we may see perfection at work in this world. Lord, use us. Change us. Speak through us. Transform us and our families to keep you first in our lives forever more. In Jesus name, amen.
