Good morning! I enjoy making investments into something or someone when it pays dividends. Basically, a person takes a risk (e.g., finance, time, energy) hoping in the near future or at the end of a cycle they will gain more than they began with. Today we will pickup in Matthew chapter 25 and will continue to read the parable of the three servants. Enjoy today’s reading and your day.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 25:19-23 NLT
“19 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’
21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’
23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’”
REFLECTION
Some key things I picked up on:
- Each servant had to give an account for how they used the masters money.
- The master entrusted the servants – “dividing it in proportion to their abilities.’ (v.15)
- Master you gave and “I earned more”. (v.20 & 22)
- They were faithful with a small amount. The master gave them many more responsibilities.
- The master praised them and called them good and faithful servants.
- The master celebrated with them.
Maybe the servants could have declined the opportunity, but the master knew them. The master knew their capabilities. The master did not give them lofty task that they would fail, he gave it to them “dividing it in proportion to their abilities.”
Brothers and sisters, what has the Lord given you? Are you willing to invest it into the lives of others, into the building up of the kingdom? If not, what are you waiting for? Be faithful with what you have.
PRAYER
Father God, we thank you for always being who you are – God all by yourself. You are creator of all things. Lord when you formed us in our mother’s womb, you designed each of us for a unique purpose. Lord, for many days behind us we did not use the gifts or unique qualities that you gave us for your glory. Lord, forgive us for that. However, today Lord we want to repent and turn away from the things that have taken us away from you or from what you have called us to do. Lord, show us how to use what you have given us to advance the kingdom. Lord, help us to invest in the right things and use our time and energy well. Lord, we want to be good and faithful servants. Lord, lead us in the way we should go. Lord, remove our doubts and our fears, so that we may boldly serve you in every area of our lives. Keep working on us and change us. In Jesus name, amen.
