My Eyes Are Ever On…

Good morning! Have you ever had to push through your fears and move forward in something? The Psalmist began Psalm 25 with “In you, Lord my God, I put my trust.” Later in the verses the Psalmist surrendered his ways and leaned on the Lord for guidance and instruction. Then he remembered the goodness of the Lord. Today we conclude the review of the final verses in Psalm 25 with the Psalmist recognizing the Lord’s ability to guard and protect; and his hope remained in the Lord.

Bible Verse – Psalm 25:12-22 NIV

Who, then, are those who fear the Lord?
    He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.
13 They will spend their days in prosperity,
    and their descendants will inherit the land.
14 The Lord confides in those who fear him;
    he makes his covenant known to them.
15 My eyes are ever on the Lord,
    for only he will release my feet from the snare.

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
    for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 Relieve the troubles of my heart
    and free me from my anguish.
18 Look on my affliction and my distress
    and take away all my sins.
19 See how numerous are my enemies
    and how fiercely they hate me!

20 Guard my life and rescue me;
    do not let me be put to shame,
    for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness protect me,
    because my hope, Lord, is in you.

22 Deliver Israel, O God,
    from all their troubles!

Reflection

Sisters and brothers, there are many points in Psalm 25, however there are three that stand out to me from today’s verses:

  • Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose. (v.12)
  • My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare. (v.25)
  • May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you. (v.27)

The Lord is always willing to guide us and instruct us in all our ways. It is important that we keep our eyes on him – not only in the difficult times but forever. As we trust the Lord we may walk through the various phases that the Psalmist wrote in his prayer, but at the end of our internal struggle we should rest in knowing we will put our trust in the Lord and that our hope is in Him. The Lord is faithful in all His ways. Lean on the Lord, He will bring you through. He did it before and He will do it again.

Prayer

Father God, we thank you for always being with us. We thank you for never giving up on us. We thank you for your faithfulness and continued love toward us. We thank you for the free gift of salvation and for the forgiveness of sin. Lord, we honor and praise you for your careful eye upon us throughout our lives. We know at times things were not and are not always easy but you consistently came through and delivered us from the snare of the enemy. Lord, today our prayer is that you continue to remind us of your faithfulness. Lord, wherever there is doubt of your goodness remind us of your goodness. Lord, wherever their is lack of hope in our situations remind us that our real hope is in you. Lord, as we struggle between our own concerns and resting in the comfort of your hand and careful eye on us, remove anxiety from our hearts, remove repeat messages in our minds that take our focus off of you. Lord, cast out our doubts and fears that hinder us from moving forward as you lead. Lord, keep us. Lord, direct our paths, and protect us from our enemies. In Jesus name, amen.
