Good morning! Today we will begin our reading in Psalm 23. May today’s verses bless you. May the hand of the Lord be on you and your family today.
Bible verse – Psalm 23:1-4 NIV
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.”
Reflection
The Psalmist was well aware of his relationship with the Lord. He understood the Lord was his provider and what the Lord did for him.
The Psalmist was clear:
- Because the Lord is his shepherd, he lacked nothing
- The Lord:
- made him rest
- lead him
- refreshed him
- guided him
- Even when things were dark, the Psalmist chose not to fear any evil because he knew:
- the Lord was his rod and staff – which protected and guided his steps
- the Lord comforted him
Sister and brothers, it would do us good to remember these verses for our own lives. Because the Lord is our shepherd we lack nothing. The Lord desires to be our rod and staff – He will protect and guide our steps. Let us find comfort in Him. Allow the Lord to help you rest and while you rest in Him allow Him to counsel you and lead you. Allow Him to refresh and guide you.
Questions to ponder:
- Are you willing?
- Will you allow the Lord to be your shepherd?
Prayer
Father God thank you for being so faithful to us. Thank for shepherding us and ensuring that we lack nothing. Lord, so much has gone on this year. For some they were able to rest, for others they were not, and today we ask that you allow anyone reading or listening to this devotion to find rest in you. Lord, refresh our souls today. Guide us along the right path and show us which way to go. Lord, when things look dark or we cannot see what is ahead, give us strength and courage to trust your steady hand to guide and direct our steps. Comfort us as we lean on you to be our every thing. In Jesus name, amen.
