Good morning! Today, we will begin our reading in 2 Corinthians chapter 13, which is the final chapter in 2 Corinthians.
Bible Verse – 2 Corinthians 13:1-4 NLT
“This is the third time I am coming to visit you (and as the Scriptures say, “The facts of every case must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses”[a]). 2 I have already warned those who had been sinning when I was there on my second visit. Now I again warn them and all others, just as I did before, that next time I will not spare them.
3 I will give you all the proof you want that Christ speaks through me. Christ is not weak when he deals with you; he is powerful among you. 4 Although he was crucified in weakness, he now lives by the power of God. We, too, are weak, just as Christ was, but when we deal with you we will be alive with him and will have God’s power.”
Reflection
In these verses, Apostle Paul promised discipline for those who lived unrepentant and full proof of his apostolic authority.
He continued to share that while he was weak, Christ was not. God’s power was available to Christ Jesus, but he chose to be weak so that we would be saved. The resurrection power was fully displayed at the cross and in that empty tomb. Because Jesus lives, we have the choice to believe, be forgiven, reconciled to God, and saved. Paul wanted this for the Corinthian church. He didn’t want punitive action, he wanted God’s power to work through him so that he may serve the Corinthian church in a constructive manner.
I love how Paul did not give up on the early church. I love how Christ has not given up on us. May our lives reflect God’s power to offer us grace, transformation, and mercy. May we desire to let others see more of Christ within us than the world in us.
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for waking us up today. We thank you for another opportunity to share your love for us. Lord, forgive us for the times we have sinned against you – knowingly and unknowingly. Lord, we want to realign our lives with you and your word. Lord, give us discernment and wisdom to sue the things you have called us to. Lord, open doors and opportunities that will help us to use our spiritual gifts and bring glory to your name. Lord, give us an obedient heart and mind to not only listen and know, but to do what you have asked of us. Lord, be our strength because we cannot do this on our own nor do we want to. Lead us, equip us, and sturdy us to reach the least, last, lost, and left out. Lord, may your mighty work, work through us.
Lord, we thank you for stabilizing the mother who is in the hospital. Lord, continue to heal her and keep her family in perfect peace. Lord, be with the doctor’s and nurses treating her and give them the wisdom that they need to properly care for her to help her body to begin to heal. Lord, improve her blood flow, blood pressure, mental capacity, and heal the areas that she was operated on. Lord, we pray for the man who is still healing from surgery earlier this month. Lord, continue to work in his life and heal every area that needs healing. Lord, we continue to pray for the father going through chemotherapy and we ask that his insurance company expedite approvals and treatment. Lord, strengthen his body and family during this season. Lord, we pray for healing for those who had chemo and/or radiation treatment this week. Lord, we ask for you to renew their strength.
Lord, comfort the hearts of those who are heavy burden and give them rest. Lord, continue to open doors and opportunities for those applying for new jobs. Lord, give them favor in the process. Lord, continue to guide us today and be our strength. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
