Good morning! As I pondered, over these verses again, I still believe, we as believers can have enough faith to ask God for small things, but we forget to be vigilant and powerful in prayer for the big things. There will be times when the answer to our prayer is no, but don’t let that diminish your faith. Enjoy today’s reading.
Bible Verse – Matthew 17:14-20 NLT
“14 At the foot of the mountain, a large crowd was waiting for them. A man came and knelt before Jesus and said, 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son. He has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 So I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.”
17 Jesus said, “You faithless and corrupt people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” 18 Then Jesus rebuked the demon in the boy, and it left him. From that moment the boy was well.
19 Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately, “Why couldn’t we cast out that demon?”
20 “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.””
REFLECTION
These verses are significant for the ministry of the disciples and for us. For the disciples, they were still learning about Jesus, the kingdom, and the call. At this moment in scripture, they came across a challenge they didn’t expect and they had to turn to Jesus for more guidance and to watch Him work. It became a learning opportunity on faith. With faith they had/we have adequate strength to move a huge mountain – assuming we are in alignment with God’s will. The problem the disciples and we encounter in ministry (day-to-day life) is our lack of faith and failure to seek the Lord’s direction. Faith, seeking the Lord’s direction, and following His will – reminds us that there is no limit to the work that we can accomplish through Him.
Brothers and sisters it’s time to rebuild our faith, hope and trust in the Lord. As believers we have been given the power of faith and prayer, and through the power we have in Christ Jesus (that Holy Spirit power) we can say in the name of Jesus, satan flee and he will. We can tell mountains to move and they move. So today, it’s time to declare your faith, take hold of the power given to us and walk in faith believing nothing is impossible for our God.
With mustard seed size faith, “Nothing would be impossible”.
- If God breathed life into your lungs today, what are you believing God to do through you today?
- What fear has you doubting what our Lord God can do through your prayers?
- What are you having faith for today?
- What do you need or who do you need to pray for today?
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for today. Lord, thank you for another opportunity to read your word and be challenged by our faith. Lord, forgive us when we fail to walk in faith. Lord, forgive us when we doubt, before we even begin to pray. Lord, forgive us for allowing other opinions to rule over your willingness to heal. Lord, we don’t want to fall short anymore. Lord, when you use us remind us to go in faith trusting (continuously trusting) you. Lord, equip us for the possible. Strengthen us so that we are not limited by the words impossible or incurable. Lord, help us to stand firm on your Word and in prayer. Lord, help us to see and recognize all the miracles you have performed around us. Lord, don’t let us miss one thing. Lord, help us with our disbelief and prepare our hearts when there are times when your answer is “I have a different plan”. Lord, we are tired of sitting on the sidelines. We want to serve and follow you today and always. Show us were you want us to begin and give us the courage to do it. In Jesus name, amen.
