He Has Followers

Good morning, everyone! Several years ago, I read an article about the a person had over a million followers on their ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account. Shortly after, I heard someone talk about the numerous followers they had on Instagram. The truth that each person shared is that they didn’t have a personal relationship with 99% of their followers, it was just too many people for them to keep up with. Sadly, we continue to read and hear the same thing about IG, FB, etc., influencers who do not have a personal relationship with their followers, but people know about who they portray to be. Today, we will read about an opportunity to follow someone who will always have the capacity to have a personal relationship with His followers. Enjoy today’s devotion.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 9:9 NLT

“9 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him.”

REFLECTION
This one verse is so powerful. There were six words that changed Matthew’s life “Follow me and be my disciple.” A few weeks ago we read about two other people who had an opportunity to follow Jesus. One was in it for fortune and fame (Matthew 8:18-22) and the other desired to follow but requested a more convenient time (Matthew 8:21-22). Only one out of the three became Jesus’ disciple – “Matthew got up and followed him.”

Brothers and sisters, I don’t know who you are following on your Facebook, WordPress, Instagram, TikTok, etc., but Jesus is calling you to follow Him and to be his disciple. He is calling you to share the good news of the gospel message – Christ Jesus is alive, death has been conquered, sins have been forgiven, there is only one way to heaven and that is through Christ Jesus, son of the living God.

Question to ponder:
If Jesus was walking past you today and he said, “Follow me and be my disciple”, would you get up and follow him? _______

Remember John 14:6, “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

If you are a Christian, then you are professing that you are a follower of Christ.

  • Are you following him today? _______
  • Will you allow others to see Christ in you? ______

Christ Jesus has over a billion followers and He still wants a personal relationship with you.

  • What do you want?______

PRAYER

Father God, thank you for sending your Son Jesus Christ to make a way for us to be reconciled to you. Lord, you are our only hope in this world. Lord, we want to follow you with all our heart and with all our mind. Lord, teach us all of your precepts and give us discernment as we live for you. Lord, unveil our eyes so that we may see you. Lord, work in us and glorify your name. Create in us a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within us. Lord, awaken us from our slumber and whisper to us your plans and purpose for our lives. Lord, strengthen our faith and remove anything that hinders us from following you and your plan for us. Lord, continue to change us. In Jesus name, amen.
