Good morning! I’m certain you have heard versions of today’s verse throughout your childhood, so I used the New Living Translation and New International versions, just to help you recall.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 7:12
“12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” Matthew 7:12 NLT
“12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”Matthew 7:12 NIV
REFLECTION
The verse we read today is commonly known as the Golden Rule. In general, it sums up the teachings in the Bible chapters focused on the Law and the Prophets in the Old Testament.
Highlights:
• whatever
• in everything
In everything or whatever we do, we should consider doing to others as we want them to do to us. In our natural state this would be impossible because we are all flawed, but as we seek to change and as we are being changed by God on a daily basis – living with Jesus in our heart and following Him we can demonstrate the righteousness Jesus demanded (that which was better than the Pharisees demonstrated – Matthew 5:20)
Let us demonstrate the love, respect and kindness that we wish to receive. You want a good friend, be a good friend. You want to be respected, learn to respect others. You want to be blessed by the Lord, be a blessing to Him and those around you… you will see how He has and will continue to bless you.
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for your love and patience. Lord, thank you for not giving us what we deserve. Forgive us for not following your direction in our lives. Lord, whatever we do and in everything we do strengthen and teach us to do it lovingly from the heart and to bring glory to your name. Lord, continue to work in us and change us. Lord, remove the things that we do that do not please you. Continue to transform our minds and live according to your will and word. Lord, direct our steps today. Touch our mouths so that the words we speak will pass through you first. Give us wisdom and discernment to make decisions today that will be aligned to your will. Lord, help us to hear your voice today and live in obedience to it. Lord, don’t let us lose focus of you. Keep our hearts at peace as we work to maintain calm in the midst of a chaotic world. Lord, you are the author and perfector of our faith continue to make yourself known to us and the world. Lead our families. Heal and restore marriages. Cover and protect children and grandchildren. Watch over and provide for the elderly, widows, and singles. Touch those who are medically and physically challenged today – bring forth healing in Jesus name. Provide for the hungry, the jobless, unhoused, and those living in temporary housing- Lord, open up doors of employment that will provide for all their financial needs; provide food that will not only sustain them but will also taste good and be healthy; provide a permanent place for those displaced to live and thrive in, give them wisdom on how to secure a new home/ permanent dwelling that will be a blessing to them and others.
Lord, help us to live by these verses today. In Jesus name, amen.
