Good morning! Happy Love Day! Today’s devotion continues with Jesus discussing God’s view of the marriage union and divorce, which is also mentioned in Matthew 19:3-9, Mark 10:11-12, and Luke 16:18. He explains to the crowd when divorce is permissible. Enjoy today’s devotion and your three day weekend.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 5:31-32 NLT
“31 “You have heard the law that says, ‘A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a written notice of divorce.’ 32 But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman also commits adultery.”

REFLECTION
Brothers and sisters at 30 years of marriage, I can honestly say marriage is not easy. It takes a lot of work for both parties.

While some marriages appear to be irreparable, I want to remind you that we serve a God who can repair a broken heart, communication barriers, selfishness, divided families, broken trust, and heal marriages.

While I am not a marriage counselor:

• If you have been contemplating divorce, pray to the Lord to give you discernment and wisdom. Allow the Lord to work in your heart and mind to make a decision that is aligned to Him.

• If you are divorced, know the Lord has not left you. The Lord can and will restore you. Use this time to build your relationship with the Lord. Learn from your previous experiences and allow the Lord to work in you to change your heart and align it with His.

PRAYER
Father God, thank you for the gift of marriage.  Lord, thank you for creating a union that is blessed by you. Lord, we know divorce is not new and that it was visible during the days of Moses, however we need prayer for families. The enemy is out to destroy what you joined together. Lord, we pray for couples who are struggling in their marriage. Lord, we pray that you will breakdown the walls that are dividing them. Lord, improve communication, remove self-centered thoughts and actions, and guide them as they seek you to repair brokenness. Lord, we pray for families that have been divided because of divorce. Lord, we ask that you shield the children and help them through their pain. Lord, help them to know you are near and that you love them. Lord, help us to be a nation that encourages good and healthy marriages. Lord, continue to work in us, teaching us how to pray for marriages, our spouses and children. Lord, teach us to pray for those who did not want to be divorced but have found themselves in that situation. Lord, we pray for those in abusive relationships and Lord, we ask for you to send protection and cover/shield them from harm. Lord, act in a mighty way to save them from further harm. Lord, restore all of us back to you and your purpose for our lives. Lord, we pray for those who want to be married and we ask that you bless them with a godly spouse that will love you first and them second with their whole heart. Lord, we pray for those who are engaged and ask that you bless their union and strength their relationship with you and with one another. Lord, continue to heal those who are brokenhearted and in need of your comfort. Lord, continue to heal those who are sick and those dealing with chronic pain.

In Jesus name, amen.
