Good morning! Have you ever looked at a family picture album and noticed that certain photographs resemble other family members? Maybe it’s the structure of a nose, the color or shape of eyes or lips. Maybe it is the way someone stands. Sometimes there are pictures where sisters or brothers look identical. And, sometimes children look identical to a parent. In those instances, we might say they are mirror images of that person. Today we will continue our reading in Colossians chapter one where Apostle Paul begins to share about Christ. Apostle Paul goes into full detail from verses fifteen through twenty, but today we will focus on verses fifteen through seventeen.
Bible verse – Colossians 1:15-17 NLT
“15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.
17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.”
Key points for today:
As we recap on verses 13-14, “For he (the Father) has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.” We can also understand or begin to understand the power that Christ has:
- Christ is the image of God.
- Christ existed before anything was created.
- Christ is over all creation.
- Through Christ God created everything on earth and in heaven.
- He made everything (seen and unseen)
- Everything was created through Christ and for him.
Reflection
Sisters and brothers, honestly these verses speak for themselves. Christ is supreme over all creation. There is no one on earth or in heaven with His authority. He loved us so much that he gave his life for us.
As we reflect on today’s verses we learned or were reminded of at least six things about Christ. Whenever you are in doubt about your life or circumstances or find fear trying to creep into your thoughts remember who Christ is. Join me tomorrow as we learn more.In the meantime, think about who Christ Jesus, our Savior and Lord is to you.For example, He is my Savior. He is my perfect peace. He is the One who watches over me. He is my deliverer. He is my way maker.
When people see and hear us today, may we be a reflection of Christ.
Prayer
Father God we thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ to save and redeem us. Lord Jesus, we thank you for paying the price for our sins so that we could be reconciled back to God. Lord, we thank you for being the perfect sacrifice so that all who believe and receive you as Lord will be with you for eternity. Lord, we surrender our lives and our wills to you to today. Lord, we want to be aligned to Your truth. Lord, we want to follow you and not the whimes of this world. Lord, make your voice louder than the untruths being spread in the world. Lord, make our ears and attention turn to you. Lord, give us hearts of compassion, minds that seek you first, and vessels that respond as you would. Lord, continue to lead us. Help us to be like You. In Jesus name, amen.
