Happy Tuesday! Lord Jesus, thank you for today. We are continuing our reading in Colossians chapter one where Apostle Paul continued to share who Christ is. Join me, enjoy the devotion, and your weekend.
Bible verse – Colossians 1:18-20 NLT
“18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. 19 For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.”
Key words in these verses
• First
• Head
• Beginning
• Over all
Reflection
In total from verses 15 – 20, Apostle Paul shared with us at least seven characteristics of Christ.
Christ is:
- The image of God,
- Over creation (He existed before anything was created),
- Creator of the universe (heavenly realm and earth),
- the head of the church,
- the first to rise from the dead to live and never die again,
- the fullness (completeness) of God
- the reconciler of all things – through Christ we are reconciled to God.
Sisters and brothers, Christ Jesus reigns supreme over all things on heaven and on earth. Let’s not forget who He is and keep Him first in our lives.
Quick questions to ponder over today:
- How can you allow Christ to be first in your life?
- What is in your life that you need to release “control over” and give it to Christ?
- Will you allow Christ to reign supreme over every area of your life?
Prayer
Father God, thank you for your love toward us. Thank you, that even when we have bad days you are still good. Lord, thank you for reconciling us back to Christ. Thank you for loving us unconditionally and giving us the will to change to become more like you. Thank you for your word in the Old and New Testament Bible. From cover to cover you reveal who You are and how much you love us. Lord, continue to work in us. Lord, we are still maturing in our faith and our understanding of how great and powerful you are. Lord, will you touch the minds, hearts, and ears of each reader and help us all to grasp what you are teaching us through your word. Lord, bless us with your peace as we continue this week. Lord, grace us with your powerful presence and let us feel you near. Lord, remove any anxiety, fear, depression, or anger from the hearts of your people. Lord, restore, refresh, relax and renew our minds so that we will have mental clarity and the ability to hear from you. Lord, cover our homes and our families. Give us favor as we seek to put you first in our lives and live for you. In Jesus name, amen.
