Good morning! Have you ever needed something to restore or boost your energy? Maybe it is a cup of coffee, an energy bar, or a piece of chocolate, etc. As you think about that question, know you are not alone. Often times people look for substitutions to fill or empower them to endure tasks that are ahead. Today, we will continue our reading in chapter one of Colossians where Apostle Paul prays for the believers to be filled.
Bible verse – Colossians 1:11-14 NLT
“11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.”
Reflection
In these verses we read how Apostle Paul prays, explains the expected result and the reason. For example:
- Pray that you will
- be strengthened with all his glorious power
- So that
- you will have all the endurance and patience you need
- Filled with joy
- always thanking the Father
- Because
- He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people
- you live in the light
- he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness
- he transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son
- his Son purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
Sisters and brothers, there are many things we can use to fill us up and help us endure, but none of them will be more powerful than the strength that comes from God’s glorious power. His power helps us to endure all things and provides peace as we patiently wait or act.
There are many ways to be filled with temporary happiness, but joy comes every morning when we allow the Lord to step into our day.
Will you begin today in thanksgiving, thanking the Lord for all He has done or for all you know He is capable of doing?
Go back to the list of things that I wrote under the bullet point ‘because’ and spend a moment reflecting on those points.
Note, He(God) has done everything. There is not anything that we did to deserve the love God so freely gives and the strength He provides for us to endure (keep going, keep pressing forward) until Christ returns or calls us home.
Sisters and brothers, ask the Lord, for strength today and trust Him to fill you to capacity with His glorious power.
Prayer
Father God we thank you for your gracious peace and mercy. We thank you for your endless acts of love. We thank you for allowing us to share in the inheritance you have given and to live in the light. We thank you for rescuing us from the kingdom of darkness and for transferring us into the Kingdom of your son Jesus Christ who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. There is nothing we can do to repay you for all that you have done for us. However, we are entirely grateful and surrender our lives to serve you and share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others so that they might experience the freedom available through believing and accepting Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Lord, continue to work in us. Lord, continue to transform our lives and our thinking. Lord, continue to use us – every part of us to bring you glory, to help and love our neighbors as ourselves. Lord, thank you for answered prayers. Lord, continue to heal our nation and world. Continue to show yourself faithful. Continue to disrupt the plans of the wicked and create chaos in their plots so that they do not succeed. Lord, lead us and draw us closer to you as we repent of any wickedness that is in our own hearts – purge it out Lord. Make us new. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen!
