Happy Thursday! Today is a new day. A day we can rejoice because there is freedom in Christ Jesus. We should celebrate that freedom every day. Sisters and brothers, today, we are finishing up the book of 2 Peter. In the letter we have read on how we should live in the midst of chaos, trouble and in preparation for the day the Lord will return. He reminded us to be watchful of false teachers, chronic deceivers, mockers and scoffers. He ultimately, challenged us to remember to live holy and godly lives while we wait for the Lord to return. Join me as we read his final words in the letter.
BIBLE VERSE – 2 Peter 3:15-18 NLT
“15 And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him— 16 speaking of these things in all of his letters. Some of his comments are hard to understand, and those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his letters to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture. And this will result in their destruction.
17 You already know these things, dear friends. So be on guard; then you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing. 18 Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.”
REFLECTION
The Lord’s delay doesn’t mean he is not coming. He is coming, but his love for us is demonstrated in his patience for all to repent. The fact is, the Lord will not be patient forever. Whether we are ready or not, He is coming back.
While we wait, stay prayed up. We must remember to put on the full armor of Christ and not simply set it aside when conditions seem manageable in our own eyes. Remain planted in the word of God so that you will not be led astray.
Finally, continue to grow and mature in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Get involved in a Bible teaching church, participate in a Bible study group and have at least one Christian friend or mentor to hold you up and/or accountable on this journey in life.
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for your grace. Thank you for your patience with us. Lord, you know what we need and desire to know. Lord, equip us with your word. Lord, give us the discernment that we need to understand and apply your word to our lives daily. Lord, help us to recognize when the enemy is trying to lead us astray. Help us to remain faithful to you and all the things you have purposed us to do. Lord, help us to grow and mature as Christians. Help us to grow in your grace and knowledge. Lord, help us to share your word throughout the world. We pray for those who have been led astray and ask that you heal them and rebuild their faith in you and the church. Lord, we pray that they get connected to a church that loves and teaches the word of God, and functions as one body fully reliant on you. We pray for those who are lost in the world and pray that they will be found in you. We pray for broken families and ask for healing in those relationships. Lord, we pray for our family members who know you and are in need of your favor and grace in their homes, in their work situations, in their marriages or singleness. Lord, we ask that you transform them daily and make them into the women and men that you have called them to be. Lord, we pray for our family and friends who don’t know you and ask that you move their hearts and lead them to you. Lord, unveil their eyes and lead them in a way that is pleasing unto you. Lord, may we be a reflection of you each day. Work in us and continue to transform us more each day. In Jesus name, amen.
