Good morning! Today we are picking up where we left off on Friday – sorry for the delay. In today’s verses we continue with Apostle Paul explaining to the believers in Colosse that they are no longer bound, but free in Christ. Sisters and brothers, we are free as well. Join me today as we continue our reading.
Bible verse – Colossians 2:11-15 NLT
“11 When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.”
Reflection
Apostle Paul continued to reassure believers that in Christ all the requirements of the Law were fulfilled in Christ Jesus. He noted there would be people who would try to draw them back into bondage – to the requirements of the law and legalistic perspective demanding circumcision, but because of Christ we have been set free. Where the Law required circumcision, Christ circumcised our hearts removing the sinful nature (the dead things in our lives) by nailing it (our sins) to the cross. Because of Christ obedience unto death, carrying our sins, so that we could be forgiven and brought back into a relationship with God, our debts/sins have been canceled (forgiven).
As believers, we are free from legalistic requirements because Christ took care of them once and for all on the cross. God made us alive with Christ; because God forgave all of our sins through Christ Jesus.
Sisters and brothers, our sins have been forgiven. Do not be tied to your past sins that you have already asked to be forgiven of, Christ came for you and He set you free from all sin and shame; God forgave you and invites you to be in relationship with Him.
Will you accept the invitation?
Prayer
Father God thank you for sending Christ Jesus to save us. Father, we are grateful for your love toward us. We are thankful that you foresaw our need for a Savior and you came in human form to save us. Thank you for Jesus our Lord and Savior who came to set us free, so that we would be forgiven. Lord we thank you. We honor and thank you for the freedom that we have in Christ Jesus. Thank you for coming to live in us. Thank you for the Holy Spirit who guides us in all our ways. Lord, renew our minds and our relationship with you. Lord, wherever we are mentally bound, set us free. Lord, forgive us of known and unknown sins. Help us to turn to you instead of other devices that pull us away from our relationship with you. Lord, keep working in us, transforming our minds, and our lives. In Jesus name, amen.
