Good Friday! Today commemorates the life, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus. However, we must not forget the resurrection – very early on Sunday morning – the third day the stone had been rolled away, Jesus wasn’t there! He is risen from the dead! Enjoy today’s devotion, your weekend and remember the main reason we celebrate Easter – Resurrection day.
Let us continue reading Apostle Paul’s final advice to the believers in Thessalonica.
Bible verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 NLT
“16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
19 Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. 20 Do not scoff at prophecies, 21 but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. 22 Stay away from every kind of evil.”
Reflection
I often reflect on these verses. The key components that stand out for me are:
- Always be joyful
- Never stop praying
- Test everything said
- Hold on to good
- Stay away from every kind of evil
Sisters and brothers, there is always room for the Lord to work in us and transform us. There is will be times when joy seems hard, but it is the hope we have in Christ Jesus alone that helps us to remain joyful – this place, these conditions/circumstances, and our lives are temporary. While we are here let us hold on to the day we will see the Lord, but never forget the commission and the reason God chose you. Share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others.
Let us never stop praying or living for Christ.
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for your love toward us and your amazing grace. Thank you for sending your son Jesus to save us. Thank you for choosing us. Lord, forgive us of our sins (known and unknown). Lord, break our hearts for what breaks yours. Help us to be about the things that concern you. Equip us and lead us to live out our purpose with grace and mercy. Lord, help us to not be a hindrance to others. Reveal areas in our lives where these verses need to be lived out, then help us to be obedient and humble enough to allow you to graciously transform us in these areas of our lives. Lord, keep working on us. In Jesus name, amen.
