Happy Wednesday! Yesterday we read about Paul’s friendship with Timothy, and Timothy’s desire to visit with the church at Philippi. Today, we will continue our reading in Chapter two (2) where Paul introduces us to another believer from Philippi who served him while he was in prison.
Bible verse – Philippians 2:25-30 NLT
“25 Meanwhile, I thought I should send Epaphroditus back to you. He is a true brother, co-worker, and fellow soldier. And he was your messenger to help me in my need. 26 I am sending him because he has been longing to see you, and he was very distressed that you heard he was ill. 27 And he certainly was ill; in fact, he almost died. But God had mercy on him—and also on me, so that I would not have one sorrow after another.
28 So I am all the more anxious to send him back to you, for I know you will be glad to see him, and then I will not be so worried about you. 29 Welcome him in the Lord’s love[f] and with great joy, and give him the honor that people like him deserve. 30 For he risked his life for the work of Christ, and he was at the point of death while doing for me what you couldn’t do from far away.”
The Lord was with Apostle Paul prior to his imprisonment and while he was in prison. Favor was given to Apostle Paul that allowed him to have his friends (fellow partners in the faith and believers) to visit with him and care for his needs. In this instance we learned that Epaphroditus was a member of the church at Philippi who was with Paul to encourage him and care for him. Although Epaphroditus became ill, the Lord still used him and healed.
Sisters and brothers, this is a wonderful example of the church supporting other ministers/pastors, ministries, sharing the Good News, and encouraging others who are need. Apostle Paul was a mighty preacher, speaker and warrior for Christ but he also needed support and encouragement from his fellow believers.
As you go through this week, think about those who are serving in the church (e.g., pastors, deacons, layshepherds, Sunday school teachers, greeters, facility workers, etc.), the mission fields, or the community and look for ways to encourage them or pray for them. As you serve, consider those who have encouraged and supported you and pray for them.
We all have a part in the body of Christ, your part is important too. Ask the Lord what He would have you do. Then humbly accept the task and move forward in obedience to the Lord. If you aren’t sure what the Lord is asking of you, keep praying and begin with one step forward. Have a wonderful Wednesday, God has great plans in store for you.
Father God, thank you for this morning. Thank you for another opportunity to serve you in whatever capacity that you have for us. Lord, thank you for your grace and mercy on our lives. You never cease to amaze us in how you workout all the details of our lives, callings and purpose. Lord, we trust you with all the details of our lives, whether you call us to minister to those who have or those who have nothing – give us an obedient and willing heart to serve wherever you need us. Lord, we pray for those who feel overwhelmed in their ministry assignments. Lord, we pray that you will refresh their souls and minds. Lord, keep them on the path of truth and ensure they teach your flock the Biblical truth. Lord, help them to open their hearts and minds to the things that concern you. Send them fellow partners in the ministry to help them with their ministry and with feeding your sheep. Lord, we pray for the pastors and ministry leaders who are battling depression and suicidal thoughts. Lord, we pray that you will heal them today. Lord, that you will be the help that they need and if you deem other medical interventions open doors for those too. Lord, you know what each one of your children are facing today. Lord, calm our hearts and help us to feel your presence as we go throughout the day. Lead us. In Jesus name, amen.
