Reassess

Happy Friday! Have you been in a situation where you had to reassess a group of people that you hungout with or let come into your circle of influence? Some people have good intentions, others do not, and others are still trying to recover from their own struggles/wounds. We all have a mix of friends or acquaintances, but sometimes we need to reassess what is good/healthy for us. Join me today and Monday as we read on a similar situation in Acts chapter 13. Enjoy your day and weekend.

Bible verse

So Barnabas and Saul were sent out by the Holy Spirit. They went down to the seaport of Seleucia and then sailed for the island of Cyprus. There, in the town of Salamis, they went to the Jewish synagogues and preached the word of God. John Mark went with them as their assistant.

Afterward they traveled from town to town across the entire island until finally they reached Paphos, where they met a Jewish sorcerer, a false prophet named Bar-Jesus. He had attached himself to the governor, Sergius Paulus, who was an intelligent man. The governor invited Barnabas and Saul to visit him, for he wanted to hear the word of God. But Elymas, the sorcerer (as his name means in Greek), interfered and urged the governor to pay no attention to what Barnabas and Saul said. He was trying to keep the governor from believing.” – Acts 13:4-8 NLT

Reflection

Barnabas and Saul took their calls seriously. The Holy Spirit led and they followed. They went to numerous places including multiple Jewish synagogues sharing the Good News. They received a divine appointment with a governor. The governor wanted to hear the Good News for himself.

Sisters and brothers, there will be opportunities for us to share the message ‘Good News’ with others. We may not know why or when, but we must trust God’s timing and respond when we are prompted to share. Finally, be on guard for those who try to distract you from God or what He is calling you to do. Assess your circle and let God lead.

Take aways and things to ponder:

  • Read the Word/Bible for yourself.
  • Be careful who you let attach themselves to you.
  • Are your friends leading you to a closer relationship with Christ or further away?
  • Who is trying to block/interfere with your belief in God the Father, Jesus Christ the son and redeemer, and the Holy Spirit or your walk/calling?

Prayer

Father God thank you for your word. Thank you for the guidance that it provides. Lord, forgive us for the times when we became distracted and turned away from you. Lord, forgive us for the times when our hearts became overwhelmed and we didn’t stop to consult you first. Lord, we want to align ourselves with your truth. Lord, we don’t want to be driven by lies, fear or other things that are not of you. Lord, adjust our thoughts, our character and open our eyes to see things as you see them. Lord, keep us focused – 20/20 vision on You. We don’t want to be like the generation before us that were written in the Bible where they were consistently disobedient and doing what was right in their own eyes. Lord, we want to be obedient and do what is right in Your eyes. Lord, lead the way. We surrender ourselves, our thoughts and our relationships to you. Lord, help us to feel your presence all around us. In Jesus name, amen.
