Good morning! Have you ever heard someone say something that was unbelievable? I’m sure you have. Whether it’s on television or through another person we often find ourselves checking sources before we believe it or the person saying it. Today we will continue our reading in Acts chapter twelve. Join me.
Bible verse
11 Peter finally came to his senses. “It’s really true!” he said. “The Lord has sent his angel and saved me from Herod and from what the Jewish leaders[c] had planned to do to me!”
12 When he realized this, he went to the home of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many were gathered for prayer. 13 He knocked at the door in the gate, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to open it. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed that, instead of opening the door, she ran back inside and told everyone, “Peter is standing at the door!”
15 “You’re out of your mind!” they said. When she insisted, they decided, “It must be his angel.”” – Acts 12:11-15 NLT
Key things to point out:
- Peter had been set free.
- The plot that Herod and the Jewish leaders had against Peter was spoiled – God stepped in.
- Those who were praying for Peter were still gathered for prayer – they did not lose faith in prayer.
- While the girl recognized Peter’s voice others did not believe what they were being told – they justified it with other reasoning.
Reflection
In these verses Peter’s voice was recognized and Rhoda the servant girl was so excited – she immediately believed. Whereas the one’s faithfully in the act of prayer on Peter’s behalf believed in the power of prayer, but dismissed her statement “Peter is standing at the door!”. Sisters and brothers, we can be so locked in on how God will/should answer prayer that we don’t see or believe it when it happens or heard it happened. Sometimes we get so caught-up in the motions that we dismiss the healing or freedom even to the point of giving something or someone else the credit for what God has done.
Sisters and brothers, God is still doing miracles. He is still spoiling the enemy’s plots against His children. While it may appear prayers may not be answered, God is working out the details. God is still setting captives free, free of their past, free from addiction, free from Human Trafficking, free from abuse, free from harsh rulers, and free from mental and physical health conditions.
Don’t lose faith in the power of prayer and don’t dismiss what God is actively doing around you. Trust God to hear your prayers and for Him to respond in His way. Make sure you give God the praise He deserves.
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for answering our prayers. We thank you for your willingness to hear our cries for mercy and deliverance. Lord, you have shown yourself faith in the past, we know you will continue to prove yourself faithful in this generation. Lord, you know the depths of our concerns and our struggles. Lord, continue to work in our hearts, expand our faith and help us to relinquish our prayers fully to you. Lord, you know our hearts and our minds. Lord, where we are weak, be our strength. Lord, were their is doubt, restore our peace and trust in you. In Jesus name, amen.
