Awake

Happy Friday! Have you ever dreamed that you were somewhere or doing something, and it felt real? Today, we will read on a similar experience that happened to Peter. Join me as we continue our reading in Acts. Have a wonderful day and weekend.

Bible verse

The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate. Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, “Quick! Get up!” And the chains fell off his wrists. Then the angel told him, “Get dressed and put on your sandals.” And he did. “Now put on your coat and follow me,” the angel ordered.

So Peter left the cell, following the angel. But all the time he thought it was a vision. He didn’t realize it was actually happening. 10 They passed the first and second guard posts and came to the iron gate leading to the city, and this opened for them all by itself. So they passed through and started walking down the street, and then the angel suddenly left him.” – Acts 12:6-10 NLT

Reflection

Even in Peter’s daze, he heard and followed the instructions of the angel of the Lord. I like how specific the angel was – get up, get dressed, put on your sandals, put on your coat and follow me. It also shows that there was enough time for Peter to get fully clothed for the journey ahead.

Sisters and brothers, the Lord will not only make a way, but he will also provide everything we need. Peter was not alone in his struggle. People were praying on his behalf, he was trusting God and God answered the prayers of the believers.

Today you might be in a tough situation. You may be struggling through what may seem to be impossible, but the Lord is on your side. The Lord is the God of possible. It’s time to wake up and trust Him with the next step.

  • What are you angry, worried or bitter about?
  • Are you willing to trust God to turn your heart or situation around?
  • God wants to set you free…will you let Him lead?

Prayer

Father God we thank you for today. We thank you for turning situations around in our lives. We thank you for leading us to places where we can feel your presence and peace. Lord God, we thank you for guiding our paths and for changing our hearts to better reflect you. Lord God, continue to lead us and keep us in step with your will. Lord, just as the angel gave Peter step-by-step instructions on what to do, can you be so kind to grab our attention, wake us up from our slumber and give us step-by-step instructions. Will you lead us out of places and away from things that desire to keep us bound? Lord, soften our hearts and give us an obedient spirit that follows your lead. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

I’m going through such a challenging time right now in relationships specifically with my sister Lin and son’s girlfriend Ashley. I usually keep my mouth shut and try to represent the Lord in my responses but not in both of these cases. I know the Lord is trying to teach me something, maybe to cling to him more. Let go and let God. Trust him. Shut my mouth. Something. It feels like it’s taking a lifetime. I want to hurry him up already. Love this teaching.

Wow! This was a powerful confirmation that the Lord heard my prayers this morning. I really need Father God to give me the step-by-step directions for what’s next in my life. I have often been fearful of making plans because I feel like it won’t be what God wants and then I would look like an epic failure. I know that God will still use those epic failures to lead me where I need to be. However, if I could have the plan beforehand I would feel more confident about the steps to take.
