Happy Wednesday! Yesterday, we read about Saul moving on to Tarsus. Also, over the past weeks we have reviewed how the believers were scattered and as a result the church continued to grow. Join us on the journey as we read Acts 9:32-35.
Bible verse
“32 Meanwhile, Peter traveled from place to place, and he came down to visit the believers in the town of Lydda. 33 There he met a man named Aeneas, who had been paralyzed and bedridden for eight years. 34 Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you! Get up, and roll up your sleeping mat!” And he was healed instantly. 35 Then the whole population of Lydda and Sharon saw Aeneas walking around, and they turned to the Lord.” – Acts 9:32-35 NLT
Key points
- Peter one of the apostles was also on the move.
- He visited with believers.
- He healed a man in the name of Jesus.
- Aeneas’ healing turned people to the Lord.
Reflection
Do you recall Jesus’ statement to Peter in Matthew 16:18? Jesus said, “And I tell you that you are Peter,[b] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[c] will not overcome it.” In today’s verses we learn that Peter did not take his role as an apostle lightly. Peter visited believers in various places – he “feed the sheep”.
But what is most intriguing about today’s verses is the story of Aeneas. We are having a hard time being confined by the Corona Virus safer at home orders, just imagine being paralyzed and bedridden for eight years (or for some people a lifetime). Do you think Aeneas had been praying for healing? Do you think others had been praying on his behalf? We don’t know for sure, but what we know is at the right time Peter showed up and said, “Jesus Christ heals you! Get up, roll up your sleeping mat!” – Aeneas was healed.
Sisters and brothers, I want to tell you today that Jesus Christ is healer. Whatever you are going through or have gone through – Jesus heals. You may not be physically paralyzed, but maybe you have been paralyzed with fear, doubt, or by a lack of tangible actions. Sisters and brothers the word says by His stripes we are healed. Jesus Christ is the one who heals the broken hearted, shameful past, dim outlooks, and throws our sins into the deepest ends of the ocean to be remembered no more. He heals beyond our comprehension and restores us.
Jesus Christ, said _______ (put your name), son/daughter I came for you and you are healed by my name.
The question becomes will you get up, roll up your sleeping mat and show/tell others how you have been healed by Jesus Christ? Or, will you receive the healing, sit still and not do anything with it.
The Lord has healed you…walk in your healing.
Prayer
Father God, in the name of Jesus we declare that every reader reading this message today is healed in Jesus name. We declare victory over addiction. We declare victory over lies. We declare victory over trauma. We declare victory over past relationships. We declare victory over illnesses. We declare victory over oppression. We declare victory over the things that have broken our hearts and the syndromes of being an outcast. Father God thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ as our healer and deliver. Lord, have your way in us. Help us to stop sleeping; and get up, roll up our mats and walk in our healing. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen!
Keep pressing forward – in Jesus name!
