Good evening, Readers! This day and week flew by entirely too fast for me. Today I missed my morning devotion, I read a few verses mid-day, but now as I wind down and give thanks to the Lord for the week and day, a devotion is what I crave. Join me in this evening devotion.
“28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”” – Matthew 11:28
Jesus has given us the ability to go to Him in our weariness. Jesus said, even if you are carrying heavy burdens – come. The best part of it all, He says and when you come, I (Jesus) will give you rest.
Jesus didn’t put heavy demands on us, or chastise us about the way we spent our time this week. He didn’t say let me see if you actually deserve rest or rescuing. But what He said was “come”. He is inviting us to come and find rest for our soul.
Sisters and brothers, I don’t know what your week has been like, nor your day or the last hour, but the Lord of all knows and He wants to give you rest for your soul.
- Are you willing to yolk/attach yourself to the one who will never leave? _________
- Are you ready to set aside your anxious thoughts and draw near to Him? _______
If you are, rest in Him. Allow Him to speak to you so that you may learn in this quiet space. Allow His breath to fill your lungs and His peace to bring things clearer in sight, easy and light, as He gently leads and lightens the load.
Father God, we thank you for the ability to come to you in tears, in joy, in pain, in happiness and in confusion. Lord, thank you for opening your arms to us and for saying come. Lord, we desire to leave our burdens, anxiety, stress, illnesses, financial worries and everything else with you. Lord, as we drop those heavy burdens at your feet, lift us up into your peaceful presence and fill us with serene existence. Lord, plant our feet near the banks of the creek and restore our souls. Lord, teach us your ways and never let us depart from you. Keep us as we trust you to walk with us through these times, this evening and weekend. Lord, you are the only one who is truly in control. Be our protector, our confident and peace giver. In Jesus name, we pray – Amen!
Dear Friends – may the Lord, bless and keep you. Sleep well, stay safe and well, and enjoy your weekend. Next week we will start the Bible book of Luke or Acts.
