He Welcomes Us

Good morning! Thank you for joining me today as we continue to read 2 Corinthians chapter 6. Enjoy.

14 Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15 What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil[d]? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever?  16 And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said:

“I will live in them and walk among them.
I will be their God, and they will be my people.[e] 17 Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.[f] 18 And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.[g]”” – 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 NLT

In these verses Paul is pointing out that the Corinthian church was allowing unbelievers to infiltrate the church and lead the church/members astray. Whereas, the church/members should have been leading nonbelievers to Christ. While believers should be praying for, leading and discipline nonbelievers we must stand firm in the faith in our beliefs (for we are the temple of God) to ensure the Good News is not diluted to uselessness.

Sisters and brothers, every day we are given a choice to choose to live for God or live for ourselves. We don’t have to label ourselves as a rebel or call ourselves a rebel because God has given us the freedom to choose. However, we can’t walk the middle of the line and expect God to act like he doesn’t see or know. God sees even the secret things. Today, you have a choice will you choose Christ or the world?

Father God, you are the one who knitted us so intricately in our mother’s womb. You are the One who knew our name before we were born. You are the One who knows the number of hairs on our heads. You alone Father God, knows our beginning and our end here on earth. Lord, thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that when this life is over – for the believer we will be reconciled to you. Lord, thank you for the choice to live for you or to choose to turn a way. Lord, today we choose to believe, accept and receive you as our Lord and Savior. Lord, forgive us for the sins we have committed against you. Lord, we repent of our sins. Come into our lives so that although we are perishing we might truly live and have new life in you. Lord, thank you for living amongst us, for being our God, for allowing us to be your people and for being our Father. Father, many believers (your children) and nonbelievers are hurting today. Many are grieving for the lost of their own loved ones, the tragic loss of the Bryant, Altobelli, Mauser, Chester and Zobayan families, the death of 30 marines and 1 navy officer yesterday. Lord, hearts are raw and in disbelief over the lost of life from various ages. However, Lord, even in our pain we will trust you. Lord, even at the loss of words, we will cry out to you to comfort the families and us. Lord, even though we are uncertain of the time and day our lives will end for ourselves and those we love, we know for certain your word and promises are true, and without a doubt that those who confess, believe and receive you will be joined together with You for all eternity. Lord, your word says blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted (Matthew 5:4). Lord, comfort us today. In the Mighty name of Jesus Christ, amen.
