There Wasn’t A Bad Question

Happy Thursday! Today we will begin our reading in Matthew chapter 24. These verses pick up shortly after Jesus publicly shared the fate of the religious leaders and Pharisees. Now we start with Jesus leaving the temple to return to Bethany via the Mount of Olives. Enjoy today’s reading and your day.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 24:1-3 NLT
“Jesus was leaving the Temple grounds, his disciples pointed out to him the various Temple buildings. 2 But he responded, “Do you see all these buildings? I tell you the truth, they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”

Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?””

REFLECTION
Can you imagine the disciples faces? They were pointing out the beauty of the temples and all their glory, but Jesus was like…it doesn’t matter, it’s going to be completely destroyed.

Of course, the disciples had to ask Jesus a minimum of two questions. However, those two questions will lead us through the remainder of Matthew chapters 24 and 25. The questions that were asked by Peter, James, John and Andrew (Mark 13:3) were:
• When will all this happen? v.3

• What sign will signal your return and the end of the world? v.3

Sisters and brothers, stay tuned there is a lot for us to take in over the next few weeks.

PRAYER
Father God, you have been so good to us. You know our coming and going. You protect us from all evil. Lord, every day is a good day because you love us unconditionally. You know our every need. Lord, you know the bitterness in our hearts and the pain that created that bitterness. Lord, we need you. Lord, forgive us for not loving You with our whole heart. Lord, teach us the way you desire for us to love. Lord, for those who don’t know how to love or receive love, Lord teach us your ways. Lord, we want to be able to love like you love. Give us discernment and wisdom as you teach us your ways. Lord, unfold Your truth as we read through Matthew chapters 24 and 25. Reveal to us all that you desire for us to know. Lord, be our strength and direct us as we continue this week. Lord, heal those suffering with pain and chronic pain. Lord, relieve them. Lord, we pray for those preparing for surgery; let their surgeries go well and make them healthy, healed, and whole. Lord, be with those seeking employment and bless them in a mighty way – open up job opportunities that will financially, mentally, and emotionally bless them and their families. Lord, continue to watch over children and keep them safe. Lord, protect them from predators and those who seek to harm them.

In Jesus name, amen.
