Good morning! As I look over Tuesday’s reading, I’m still captivated by Peter’s question to Jesus “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me?” and Peter’s questioning response of seven. When I think about seven, I realize that many of us have a hard time forgiving a single offense. Today, we will read Jesus’ response to Peter and us as well. Enjoy today’s reading and your day.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 18:22-26 NLT
“22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!
23 “Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him. 24 In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. 25 He couldn’t pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt. 26 “But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.’ 27 Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt.”
REFLECTION
If we multiply 70×7, we would get the number 490. Not only are we being asked to forgive an offense, but a minimum of 489 more. If you were to count all the sins you committed in your life would it equal 490?
Sisters and brothers, our God is patient with us. He desires for everyone to repent of their sins, and to turn back to God. He didn’t simply see our sins and say ‘oh well, I told them’ or ‘good luck on judgment day’. No God sent His one and only son to clear our sin debt once and for all.
The Lord is willing to forgive our sin, a debt we can never pay. However, we need to ask Him for forgiveness and to turn away from those sins. Are you willing to ask God for forgiveness of known and unknown sins? Are you willing to walk away from the sins that keep you bound in sin?
Lord Jesus, thank you for making it possible for us to be forgiven. Lord and Savior, Jesus, help us to go and sin no more.
PRAYER
Father God, you are always patient with us. Lord, you supply our needs and you are the only one who forgives our sins and clears our debt forever. Lord, thank you! Thank you Father, for sending your son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Lord, continue to work in us. Change our hearts and minds to reflect on your goodness and make a decision to follow you. Lord Jesus, we want to look more like you every day. Release the chains of sin and addiction that keep us bound in sin. Release us from the influence of others who hinder us from walking with you.
Lord, we pray for each woman who attended the women’s retreat. Lord, we pray for you to continue to work in their lives. Lord, touch them and give them the peace they need. Lord, bless the organizations that were represented and the leaders. Lord, strengthen them and give them peace. Continue to heal us all and give us a desire and will to follow you. Lord, continue to heal the brokenhearted, the lost, least, and left out. Comfort us and those who have a broken heart. Lord, heal the pain. Lord, continue to be with those who are grieving today. Lord, you know the depth of their grief. Lord, we lift up marriages and ask for restoration, reconciliation, and healing. Protect the innocent children and keep them safe from harm.
In Jesus name, amen.
