Not Above The Teacher

Happy Wednesday! The Lord is good in all his ways. He instructs and guides us. He always demonstrates his unfailing love and compassion towards us. As we continue in Matthew chapter 10, we find Jesus reminding the disciples of what they will encounter on their way to share the gospel message. Enjoy today’s devotion and your day.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 10:24-31 NLT
“24 “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household”!
” 26 “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

REFLECTION
In the above verses, the Lord reminded the disciples of the difficulties that he encountered as he ministered to the people. While it may not seem encouraging, Jesus comforted the disciples by letting them know that they would encounter the same difficulties or resistance he had experienced.

In that way, the disciples were told they would not be above their teacher (Jesus). If religious leaders and other accusers said, Jesus (Lord over all), was Beelzebul (Satan, prince of demons), then Jesus’ followers/disciples should not be surprised when they are accused and/or called of the same thing or called certain names.

Jesus also reminded the disciples not to be afraid of those who falsely accuse or threaten death against them for speaking/declaring that the Kingdom is near. Jesus had given them everything that they needed to go out and announce the kingdom is near, to heal the sick, to cast out demons, and more. The disciples did not go with all the extras, it was minimum so that they had only what they needed, and the rest – the Lord provided.

Therefore, sisters and brothers let’s us not be discouraged by the trials we will encounter along the way as we proclaim the gospel message and live our lives for Christ Jesus. Trust that the Lord our God is and will be with us everyday. He will guide and instruct us in the way(s) we should go.

To Jesus, we are far more valuable than two sparrows. Jesus knows the number of hairs on our head and everything about us. If He knows the smallest details of our lives, then we can trust Him to care and provide for us. Do not fear, stay on task – the Lord is with you.

PRAYER
Lord, thank you for today. Thank for your protection and love for us. Thank you for giving us a sound mind and a peaceful spirit. Lord as we go through the day, keep us focused on you. Lord, heal us in every area of our lives. Speak to us and rekindle our fire and passion for you.

Lord, we pray for our pastors and leaders in the church. Lord, keep them and guide them, fill them with your Holy Spirit.  Lord, direct their paths and teach them to be more like you. Lord, we lift up every reader to you in prayer.  Lord, you know exactly what we are going through. Lord, build us up in you. Increase our faith. Help us to remember that you love us. Protect and comfort those without a home. Lord, send us to feed the hungry, to provide warm clothing for the cold and homeless. Show us your faithfulness daily and do not let us stray away from you.

Lord, no matter the difficulties ahead we want to be more like you, teach us your ways and show us how to minister to the least, the lost, and the last. Lord, keep us safe from harm and teach us how to rest in you. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
