Good morning! Have you ever been on a trip and the organization/organizer sent you a specific list of what you should and/or should not bring? I found those lists helpful and they made it easy to prepare for a trip away. Today, we will continue to read the instructions Jesus gave the disciples. Enjoy today’s devotion as we pick-up where we left off on yesterday.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 10:9-15 NLT
“9 “Don’t take any money in your money belts—no gold, silver, or even copper coins. 10 Don’t carry a traveler’s bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed.
11 “Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a worthy person and stay in his home until you leave town. 12 When you enter the home, give it your blessing. 13 If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing. 14 If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave. 15 I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day.”
REFLECTION
Yesterday, we read that Jesus was sending out his 12 disciples to go and announce to the nation Israel that the Kingdom is near. The mission was to speak with the lost sheep of Israel because the kingdom message was for God’s covenant people. Israel need to accept the King/Messiah that arrived.
Jesus provided the disciples detailed instructions and minimized what the disciples would took with them. They did not take anything that would gain anyone’s attention or buy influence. They were on a mission to announce the message with anyone who would receive it. As the disciples blessed others, others blessed them.
Where is Jesus/Holy Spirit sending you? ______
Who is Jesus/Holy Spirit asking you to share the gospel message with or speak a word of encouragement to or to pray for? ______
The Lord never ceases to amaze me. As we will read, the message became for everyone, not just the nation Israel, but for everyone in the world. The Lord calls us to places we never expect to go and He leads us to people we never expect to meet so that others can receive the message and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He knows exactly what He is doing and how much we need Him. Trust His wise instruction and counsel as He leads you. Invite our Lord and Savior, Jesus to journey with you today, and be obedient to His guidance.
PRAYER
Father God, thank you for today. Thank you for your love toward us. Thank you for blessing us with your goodness. Lord, we need you. Lord, we can’t do anything that will last without you. Lord, guide our thoughts and actions. Lord, let your words be on our tongue and in our heart. Lord, equip us for kingdom work. Lord, be with us and teach us your ways. Teach us how to lean into you while we are at home, work or any other location we may find ourselves. Lord, please remove all the baggage of our past. Free us from unnecessary things that hold us down or hold us back from following you. Lord, continue to transform and lead. us as you did the disciples. Help us to continually learn more about you and your character everyday. Help us to apply your teachings and your word in our lives.
Lord, we pray for the man whose life on earth is nearing the end. Lord, we praise and thank you for the time you have given him here on earth. Lord, as you prepare to call him home we ask that you strengthen their family. Lord, comfort their hearts and help them with everything they need emotionally and financially. Lord, be with them in their grief and hold them together as their lives change. Lord, we ask for prayer as we prepare for Resurrection Sunday. Lord, thank you for saving us and for giving us hope. Thank you for the promise of eternity with you. May this reminder of what you did for us on the cross keep us humble and grateful for your sacrifice – we don’t deserve it, but in your love, grace, and mercy you made away for us to be reconciled to God. Lord, let your Kingdom come and let your will be done. Thank you! Thank you!
Lord, bless and keep us in Jesus name amen.
