Good morning! I pray that the Lord will bless you with an abundance of spiritual gifts, so that you will use your gifts and talents to further the kingdom of God. May God’s blessings fall on you this morning. Enjoy today’s verses.
BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 6:1-4 NLT
“1 Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. 2 When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. 3 But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. 4 Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”
REFLECTION
Jesus continued to teach and rebuke the Pharisees hypocritical deeds. Jesus was looking at their motives (our heart) when and why they gave or did what they did. In these verses, Jesus brought attention to the Pharisees and how they would do things to bring praises to themselves, or gave glory to themselves for the work that they were doing. It was an attempt to show the people/community how righteous they were.
There isn’t a problem with giving and/or doing, it is the motive behind it. Our giving and doing doesn’t prove our righteousness, our righteousness comes from a relationship with God. In that relationship He changes our heart, directs our actions and we begin to do things because we love the Lord and his people, not because we want attention or want to bring glory to ourselves.
Lord, examine us. May our giving and deeds align to your Word. Let us seek a desire to please you so that our reward will come from you, and not from temporary praise to make us look good to others, but we want or giving and deeds to be pleasing to you. PRAY
Father God, thank you for everything that you do for us. Lord, thank you for guiding our thoughts and actions. Lord, continue to keep us in your hands and cover/shield us from the enemy and plots against us. Lord, as you bless us with spiritual gifts and finances, help us to use them to bring glory to you and not to ourselves. Lord, examine us and our motives. Show us where and when we act self-righteous and remind us to remain humble in you. Lord, continue to work in us and use us more each day. Lord, we pray for those in need. Lord, you know each person’s need and we ask that you provide for them. Lord, give them hope and comfort them. Lord heal the brokenhearted and restore relationships that need to be restored. Lord, we pray for the innocent who are imprisoned and ask that you set them free. Lord, we pray for healing in our land, employment for the unemployed, reconciliation of our communities. May our leaders submit to you. Lord, we pray for those who are having financial difficulties and ask that you assist them with their finances and needs. Lord, be with those who are feeling lonely and comfort them with your presence, but also bring forth godly friends/companions to stand with them on lonely or good days. In Jesus name, amen.
