Don’t Give Up

Good morning! In Hebrews chapter 12 the writer continues with reminders, because it is important that we do not forget that the Lord loves us.

Bible Verse – Hebrews 12:3-8 NLT

“ 3 Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. 4 After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin. 5 And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children?  He said,

“My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. 6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child. 7 As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? 8 If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all.”

Reflection

The beginning verses remind us of what Christ endured for us to be forgiven of our sins. He reminds us that what we endured is not as painful as what Christ endured to save us. So the hope is that when we struggle against sin or other difficulties in life, we can endure because Christ made away for us.

God sent His son Jesus to save us and reconcile us back to God. As children of God, we are encouraged to follow Him. His correction and love toward us is unending, His grace is forever sufficient, and His desire to transform us to be more like Christ is continuous. Trust His discipline, the stretch, and the love He has for you in the trial and on good days.

However, no matter what you are going through – don’t give up! The Lord loves you and we are praying for you too.

Prayer

Father God, we thank you for your love toward us. Lord, thank you for enduring the hostility of difficult and sinful people (including me) in order for us to be saved. We thank you for giving us strength to endure hostility from those who have decided not to follow you. Lord, continue to teach us your ways. Lord, be our beacon of light as we seek to follow you. Correct us when we are straying away from you and our calling. Guide us and steer us in the direction that is pleasing to you. May the discipline you give, be seen as measures that correct us in love and let us be undaunted by the shifting in our lives but also encourage us to press forward in your strength. Help us to pursue you with passion and boldness. Father, we also lift up families impacted by the wars around the world. Lord, help them to recover from these horrible situations and be with those who are faced with homelessness, sickness, and poverty. Lord, as aid arrives to help them, Lord, comfort them and provide for them. Move the hearts of leaders to end the wars.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
