Good morning! Yesterday, we concluded our reading in Hebrews chapter 11. Hebrews 11 gave us a look at our faithful brothers and sisters. It allowed us to see faith in action. By their example of faith, we can be encouraged to continue to live by faith. Let us read chapter 12.
Bible Verses – Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT
“ 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”
Reflection
Today, the author is telling us to drop the weight/sin that is slowing us down from walking in the fullness of faith.
Question to ponder: What weight/sin do you need to drop in order to follow Jesus? _____________
The author is also telling us to fix our eyes on Jesus. Question to ponder: What are the things in your life that are impairing your vision or keeping you from seeing Jesus in your life? ______________
May I challenge you to:
- tell the Lord what you need in order to refocus on Him.
- listen to His guidance and follow in obedience.
Prayer
Father God, we desire to honor you with our life. We strive to keep our eyes focused on Jesus. However, Heavenly Father, there are times when our faith is weak like our brothers and sisters in the scriptures. Lord, as you proved yourself faithful to them, throughout the Bible, in the lives of our friends and in our own continue to remind us of your faithfulness. Help us to render our fears to you. Give us peace as we fix our eyes on you. Help us to stay focused and not be distracted by the worldly things that slow us down in our pursuit of you. Lord, help us to drop the weight(s) and run the race ahead. Give us strength where we are weak. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
