Humble Servant

Good morning! The Lord knows exactly where you are physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  He sees you and he cares. Join me today as we continue in the book of Matthew.

BIBLE VERSE – Matthew 2:19-23 NLT

“19 When Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt. 20 “Get up!” the angel said. “Take the child and his mother back to the land of Israel, because those who were trying to kill the child are dead.”

21 So Joseph got up and returned to the land of Israel with Jesus and his mother. 22 But when he learned that the new ruler of Judea was Herod’s son Archelaus, he was afraid to go there. Then, after being warned in a dream, he left for the region of Galilee. 23 So the family went and lived in a town called Nazareth. This fulfilled what the prophets had said: “He will be called a Nazarene.””

REFLECTION

The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream on four occasions (Matthew 1:20, 2:13, 2:19 and 2:22). The Lord, continued to guide and direct him. While Joseph was entrusted to the greatest task of raising the Messiah, he trusted the Lord to show him where to go and what to do.

When I think of Joseph I think of two words – humble servant.

Questions to Ponder:

  • What gift or task has the Lord entrusted you with? _________
  • Are there areas in your life that you need to humbly submit to the Lord in order to use those gifts or task for the Lord’s glory? ________
  • List the item(s) that are keeping you from being obedient to the Lord’s direction:
  1. _________________
  2. _________________
  3. _________________
  4. _________________

PRAYER

Father God, thank you for never leaving us.  Thank you for giving us life and discernment to hear from you. Lord, you are our rock and fortress. You shield us in the battle and restore our souls. Lord, we humbly surrender those things we listed and may not have listed to you. Lord, forgive us for straying away from your guidance and purpose for our lives.  Lord, wake us up, open our eyes and help us to see you and seek you in everything thing we do and in each decision we must make. Lord, remove the spirit of pride, laziness, confusion and fear. Lord, give us discernment and teach us your ways. Lord, we pray for our nation today and ask that you will change the hearts of our leaders to be more like you. Lord, we pray for transformation in our states, cities and communities that they will be places with true Christian values, faith and leadership. Lord, remove the veil of false prophets and idols, and open our eyes to see you and live for you. Lord, please bring healing to the sick, strength to those suffering and grieving, open up doors of opportunity to the jobless and provide shelter to the homeless. Lord, today we humbly submit our lives and plans into your hands. Lord, your will be done. In Jesus name, amen.
