Good morning! Have you ever walked down the street and noticed a part of the sidewalk was elevated? Did you take a personal note, that whenever you walk past that section of the sidewalk to pay attention so that you do not trip? Earlier this week while on my morning walk I noticed a raised portion of the sidewalk. Initially, I was paying attention so that I would not trip or fall, but I couldn’t comprehend why the sidewalk was elevated until I looked to my left and saw the roots of a large tree. The roots were growing so much and had become so strong that they lifted the sidewalk. Today in our reading, Apostle Paul will talk about letting our roots grow deep. Enjoy today’s devotion and prayer.

Bible verse – Colossians 2:6-7 NLT

“⁶ And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. ⁷ Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”

Reflection

Apostle Paul concluded this first part of his letters to the believers at Colosse that in knowing who Christ is, we as believers should continue to follow and live in Him.

Sisters and brothers, we must take the time to seek opportunities to grow further in our relationship with Christ. We can have all the worldly wisdom and degrees, we can have extensive Bible knowledge, but if we lack a transformational relationship with God then we are missing out and our growth as Christians will be stagnate or stunted. God has so much more in store for us, but we need to let the roots grow deep.

Allow yourself the space and time to grow into a more intimate relationship with Christ. Spend more time with Him. Recognize His presence and provision for your life each day. Praise Him and be grateful for His goodness.

Questions to ponder:

• How do you plan to continue to follow Christ?
• What can you do each day to let your roots grow deep into Christ?
• How will you let your life be built on Christ?

Allow your roots to grow so that you will be strong enough to lift somethings…lift that burden, toss those fears, or move those doubts and give them to Christ.

Prayer

Father God, we thank you for all the things that you have done for us. Thank you for sending your son Jesus Christ to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Thank you for opening our eyes to see and receive the saving grace and redemption that was freely offered to us. Lord, forgive us of our sins (known and unknown) and help us to turn away from those sins. Lord, continue to work in us and transform our character to be more like you. Lord, may our thoughts, our words, but mostly our hearts align with your word and what we profess to believe. Lord, help us to draw closer in our relationship with you so that our roots will grow deep and so that our faith will not waver. Lord, help us to be bold witnesses and examples of You living within us. Lord, we lift up our world to you and ask for healing. We lift our churches up to you and ask for you to heal and reunite the church in Your truth. Turn our hearts back to you. In Jesus name, amen.
