Happy Friday! God is always preparing and planning. He’s faithful at preparing our hearts and the Holy Spirit is always prompting us to follow God’s voice. In today’s verses we are picking up from Paul talking about David – the man after God’s own heart. Join me as we continue in Acts 13. Enjoy your day and three day weekend.
Bible verse
“23 “And it is one of King David’s descendants, Jesus, who is God’s promised Savior of Israel! 24 Before he came, John the Baptist preached that all the people of Israel needed to repent of their sins and turn to God and be baptized. 25 As John was finishing his ministry he asked, ‘Do you think I am the Messiah? No, I am not! But he is coming soon—and I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the sandals on his feet.’” – Acts 13:23-25 NLT
Reflection
Paul’s message of encouragement to the people in the synagogue was perfect. He provided tangible history that they could understand and made the perfect segway to explain the Messiah – Jesus the promised Savior of Israel had come.
Sisters and brothers, the beauty of it all is that Jesus did not only come for Israel, Jesus is the Savior of the world. He came to set us all free from eternal death and give us eternal life. 1 John 4:13-16 states “13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.”
God loves you sisters and brothers. Just like David, let us be a people after God’s own heart.
May the love of God shine through you today, into the weekend and in the highly political months ahead. Let the Holy Spirit give you discernment in your speech, on social media, in your community, in your love for your neighbor, but most of all in your love for God. Continue to seek justice (do what is right), love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
Prayer
Father God, we thank you for another day. We thank you for an opportunity to read your word and learn about who you are. Thank you for the many blessings you have given us. Thank you for making a way for us. Lord, as we go into this Labor day weekend be with us. Slow the spread of COVID-19. Protect us from the tactics of the enemy and strengthen our faith in you. Lead us into our call and purpose. Suit us up from head to toe with Your armor, so that we can stand against the enemy’s schemes – let your justice reign. In Jesus name, amen.
