Good morning! Today’s devotion concludes our journey through Acts chapter 10. We have read about Cornelius’ call for Peter, Peter’s visit to Cornelius, the Gentiles hearing the Good News and today we will learn what happened to the Gentiles. Join me as we continue our reading. Have a wonderful day.
Bible verse
“44 Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message. 45 The Jewish believers[e] who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too. 46 For they heard them speaking in other tongues[f] and praising God.
Then Peter asked, 47 “Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?” 48 So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterward Cornelius asked him to stay with them for several days.” – Acts 10:44-48 NLT
Reflection
God had done amazing things within the hearts of the Jews and Gentiles represented in these verses. They both had to have a change of heart and had to be receptive/obedient to the instructions the Lord had given them. God used Peter in a mighty way to bring the message of Jesus to Cornelius and others who were there listening. Additionally, Peter brought other Jewish believers along with him to Cornelius’ house who became witnesses of what God was doing in the lives of those Gentiles. They all received the Holy Spirit.
Sisters and brothers, there is peace with God through Jesus Christ. God has no favorites. God has a plan for you too. Trust the Holy Spirit’s leading, allow God to change your heart toward others and watch the love of Jesus begin to flow through you and use you to share the Good News.
Ponder:
- What is God trying to change within you?
- What do you need from God to change some of the things you have deeply rooted within you?
- Are you ready for Jesus to take the wheel?
Prayer
Father God we come humbly before you asking for forgiveness for the times when we didn’t love our neighbors as ourselves. Lord, forgive us for the times when we stood in judgment of others all while asking you to forgive us and not judge us harshly. Lord, you know our hearts and how wicked our thoughts can be. Lord, we surrender our hearts and minds to you. We ask that you give us eyes to see things as you do. Reveal to us the areas where we have been bias, discriminatory and unloving. Heal the brokenness that has created those thoughts, renew our minds so that we can change our perspectives, and lead us to keep our eyes focused on You. Lord, we want to experience your perfect peace, be with us as we go through this day. Pour love into our hearts 💕 and let it overflow like a rush river. In Jesus name, amen.
