God Is With You

Good morning! Yesterday, we discussed a portion of Stephen’s sermon in Acts chapter seven. Within the sermon we read about Moses and his challenges with coming into his purpose/calling. Today, we will continue reading on Moses as he moved forward in his purpose/calling. The full account of the life of Moses can be read in the book of Exodus. Join me today as we continue reading Stephen’s sermon to the high council.

Bible verse:

35 “This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush. 36 He led them out of Egypt and performed wonders and signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the wilderness.

37 “This is the Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’[h] 38 He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us.” – Acts 7:35-38 NLT

Key points:

  • Early on Moses was rejected by words from the Israelite, but when God was ready Moses was sent by God to be the Israelites ruler and deliver.
  • Moses performed signs and wonders.
    • in Egypt, the Red sea and 40 yrs in the wilderness.
  • The number 40 was significant in Moses life.
    • 40 when he knew their was a call on his life.
    • 40 years had passed before He received the official call from God to go deliver the Israelites.
    • 40 years in the wilderness – after the Red sea.
  • Moses predicted the coming of Jesus Christ (v.37)
  • On Mt. Sinai Moses received the living word to pass on to us.

Reflection:

Sisters and brothers Moses went through many challenges in his life. He was abandoned, adopted, separated from his true people, rejected and went into isolation to run away from his past. But God used him. God met Moses where he was. God restored and strengthened Moses, but most of all God was with him.

God prepared Moses in his youth, “Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.” God built in Moses’ heart compassion for the Israelites. God would not allow Moses to commit murder without remorse. Moses in remorse and fear fled, and God met him their in that place where he fled (Midian – wilderness).

If you are struggling today with a similar background like Moses, maybe you have been rejected, abandoned, have self-isolated or fled. Are you in the wilderness? Then may I challenge you to stop where you are, refocus your attention on God, and allow him to speak to you. God is with you too.

Things to ponder:

  • God, I am sorry for anything that I’ve done that did not align to your will.
  • God, I want to fully surrender myself to you. Show me your way.
  • Lord, restore me and use me for your purpose.
  • God, what do you desire of me?

Prayer:

Father God thank you for your endless mercy and grace upon our lives. Thank you for never leaving us in the wilderness too long. Lord, keep your hands and eyes on us. Lead us in the way that we should go. Challenge us where we are and guide us to the path and on the path that leads to you. Lord, don’t let our fears or past failures keep us from experiencing the things you have in store for us. Lord you used Moses for 120 years, we want you to use us for the rest of our lives. Lord, use every detail of our past for your glory and for the deliverance of your people. Lord, don’t waste one detail. Lord, when others try to shame us, ridicule us or turn others against us, help us to stand tall in your name. Help us to stand in faith knowing you know every detail and yet, You chose us. Lord, continue to keep us humble and usable by you. Teach us your ways and remind us to do your will. Lord, be with those who are captive (e.g., mentally, emotionally, physically) and set free. Lord God, be with us. In Jesus name, amen.
