Happy Friday! There are many things that go on in this world that we do not understand. Yet, there comes a time when things become so clear that we cannot excuse what we understand. Peter explained the message so clear that the people were ready to respond. Join us as we continue reading Acts chapter 2.
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.” – Acts 2:37-41 NLT
Sisters and brothers, Peter boldly preached the message to the people. The people believed, repented of their sins, were baptized and received the gift of the Holy Spirit. What was more amazing is one gospel message, one man filled with the Holy Spirit who was obedient to God’s call on his life was the instrument or factor that changed lives – 3,000 people were saved.
Sisters and brothers, what is God calling you to do? ____________
It may not be to save 3,000 people, but someone is waiting for you to fulfill your God given purpose so that they will be saved. Don’t keep them waiting too long, because God will save His people with or without us, but let it be with us.
Also note, God didn’t restrict the promise of the Holy Spirit to only apostles, the promise is available to all who believe, and repent of their sins. Baptism is a public confession of faith and if you haven’t been baptized, but want to be, speak to a pastor or leader of your church or a local church and tell them you want to be baptized and they will baptize you. Baptism can happen at a church, in a lake, a backyard or inflatable pool or a bathtub. During the quarantine it can be done via Zoom. Nothing can stop the move of God.
Father God we thank you for the message Peter delivered to the people. Father we thank you for the opportunity to believe, repent of our sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sins. Father, there is no one greater than you. We praise you and thank you for sending your Holy Spirit. Fill us Lord! Change our hearts and our lives. Lord, be with those who are grieving a lost loved on. Lord, strengthen the family of Ahmaud Arbery and allow them to see justice in this case. Lord, we pray for unity and racial reconciliation around the world. Lord, we need for you to heal our land. Don’t let this be another death that doesn’t change our world or hearts. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
