Happy Monday! The beauty about setting a timer is that we are reminded that something needs to be done. The beauty about a calendar is that it tells you what you need to do or have planned. All these things work if you set the timer or write in/on the calendar. Without reminders we sometimes forget what needs to be done, when we did something or how something was done in the past. Today, we are going back to 1 Corinthians, chapter 10, verses 1 through 5 with Paul reminding the Corinthians. Enjoy and have a wonderful Monday. God’s mercies are new today!
“I don’t want you to forget, dear brothers and sisters, about our ancestors in the wilderness long ago. All of them were guided by a cloud that moved ahead of them, and all of them walked through the sea on dry ground. 2 In the cloud and in the sea, all of them were baptized as followers of Moses. 3 All of them ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all of them drank the same spiritual water. For they drank from the spiritual rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ. 5 Yet God was not pleased with most of them, and their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.” 1 Corinthians 10:1-5 NLT
Some translations of 1 Corinthians 10:1-5, titles this chapter Lessons from Israel’s Idolatry. In this chapter Paul begins with several reminders to the Corinthians:
- Their Exodus from Egypt, which was freedom from captivity as slaves (Exodus 13:21; 14:19-20)
- Passage through the Red Sea, a form of protection and deliverance from people who wanted to take their lives (Exodus 14:21-28)
- Baptized in the since that Moses was leading them, and Moses was God’s servant who they trusted (Exodus 14:32)
- They were hungry and God feed them mana from heaven (Ex. 16:4; 16:15)
- They were thirsty in the desert and Lord provided water from a rock (Ex.17:1-7; Numbers 20:1-13)
While God gave them all that they needed and asked/grumbled for, many of them failed to see it or trust it. Out of the hundreds of Israelites that wondered through the desert on their way to the promise land, Joshua and Caleb were the only ones who did not die in the desert (Numbers 14:29-30).
Sisters and brothers, sometimes we need to remember when we once cried out to God and he delivered us. We need to recognize the miracles that have or are taking place in our lives. It’s easy to grumble, complain, and be discontent, but the real reward is found in faith and in trusting God to do what He said He would do.
Things to ponder:
- What have you prayed/asked God for and he did it or provided for it?
- When was the last time you thanked God for all the things in your life?
- What do you need to ask God for forgiveness for?
- Given the above, what are you willing to trust God to do in your life today or in the future?
- Will you wait patiently for God?
Father God, thank you for your faithfulness. God, thank you for seeing the best in us and for making provisions for your one and only Son Jesus Christ to be a living sacrifice to save us from our sins. Lord, we thank you for giving your life so that we would be saved. Lord, forgive us for our grumbling, our selfish tendencies, our laziness, and stubbornness. Lord, we don’t want to put other things before you. Lord, we don’t want to give credit to anyone but you. We thank you for all that you have done in our lives. Lord, we trust you with our lives, our dreams, our journeys, our faith, our future and the future of our families. Lord, we praise you and thank you. Continue to remind us of your goodness toward us, so that we do not perish in the desert because we were too afraid to trust you or be obedient to your word. Lord, we need you. Keep working in us in Jesus name, amen.
Keep praying! Keep Trusting! Keep believing!
