Happy Thursday! The book of 1 John is full of truth and conviction. While tough to read, it is the word of God – directly from the pages of the Bible. Enjoy today’s reading.
“Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.” 1 John 3:7-10 NLT
Let me share a story. In my field of work people are limited in their ability to share their faith and the gospel message. Therefore, we can’t go around leaving Bible tracks or posting scriptures throughout the office. However, just because my environment is not conducive to my desire to share the gospel with every person I meet at work, my character (that is renewed each day by Christ) doesn’t change. It is my character and love for Jesus Christ alone that shines through some of the darkest days in the office and in life. It is my character that allows people to see that there is something different about me and draws them into relationship with me. While the devil is busy in the workforce, I can say there is a body of believers in the office praying and standing in the gap everyday. Bottom line of this story is that in spite of obstacles, keep living what you profess to believe. Remember people are watching your faith in action. Be the difference in your home, place of employment, school and family. Pray for the lost. Show compassion and stand firm in your faith – it speaks volumes. One of the greatest examples of this was the time a “non-believer” (who I never shared my belief with) came to me and said, Mary, I know you’re a Christian. I need for you to pray for my friend… Then the person went on to say, I couldn’t think of anyone else, but I knew you would pray for my friend.
How do people know you are a Christian? ____
Father God, thank you for the ability to read your word everyday. Lord, we understand that there are people who do not have access to a Bible or are being persecuted for their faith. Lord, we pray for the lost who do not have access to a Bible and may not know your word. Lord, send disciples to those places. Cover them and protect them from the devil’s schemes as they courageously take your word to the nations Lord, be with us as we go about our day. Lord, may your Holy Spirit rest on us today so that people will see we are your daughters and sons. Lord, equip us with all we need to display a Christ-like character each day and in any environment that we find ourselves. Lord, when we accepted you as our Lord and Savior, you took away all of our sins. Lord, if we have reverted back or picked up new sins because we have fallen away from you (have not kept you first), Lord help us. Lord, remove the things that have us bound to sin, forgive us and remove that desire so that we will go and sin no more. Lord, we want to experience all that you have for us. Lord, forgive and cleanse us. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
Keep seeking! Keep trusting! Keep praying!
