Good morning! Thank God for another week to love others and serve him. The Lord is faithful and his presence is real. Sisters and brothers have you ever been in a position where you had to make a decision and you weren’t certain about which decision to make? Or have you received advice from a trusted person, but decided not to follow their advice? Today, as we continue our reading for the week, we read on Pilate’s question to the people and the warning he received. Join me as we continue in Matthew chapter 27. Have a wonderful day.

Bible Verse – Matthew 27:15-19 NLT
“¹⁵ Now it was the governor’s custom each year during the Passover celebration to release one prisoner to the crowd—anyone they wanted. ¹⁶ This year there was a notorious prisoner, a man named Barabbas. ¹⁷ As the crowds gathered before Pilate’s house that morning, he asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you—Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”  ¹⁸ (He knew very well that the religious leaders had arrested Jesus out of envy.)

¹⁹ Just then, as Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him this message: “Leave that innocent man alone. I suffered through a terrible nightmare about him last night.””

Reflection
Here we see the governor (Pilate) was advised to leave Jesus alone. In Pilate’s heart and mind he knew Jesus was not deserving of death. He also understood the priests and elders were envious of Jesus.

Brothers and sisters if you had to make a choice would you decide to go along with the crowd or stand for the truth?

Yes, it is easy to say I would have stood with truth. However, I want you to try it today, at work, at school, at home and this week to stand on the side of truth. I wish all of you could report back to me about your experience. Whatever it is, I trust the Lord to open your eyes to expose areas in your life that need to see and/or stand for truth.

So again, the assignment or challenge for today and this week is to stand on the side of truth, to stand up for what is right and not be passive to things that you know are untruths. Let me pray for us.

Prayer
Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ we come to you in prayer. Father we ask that you forgive us of any sins we have committed (known and unknown). Lord, while we thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and for rising from the grave defeating both sin and death, Lord Jesus we know that it was painful. Lord, we are sorry for the times we have turned away from your truth, and we ask that you be with us today and this week as we repent, stand on the side of truth, and your word. Lord, help us to be more mindful and intentional about seeing and doing things in truth. Lord, while we can justify a lie or misrepresentation of the truth, Lord we don’t want to do that anymore. Lord, penetrate our hearts to be sincere, truthful and steadfast in following you. Lord, clean our hearts from lies – we want to walk in your truth. Lord, help us to remove all the junk from our hearts and pursue an abundant life in you. Lord, as we stand in truth, protect us from the vicious attacks from the enemy and his followers.

Lord, continue to heal families and households. Lord, cover our homes and children. Lord, watch over the children who are missing and place them in a safe place or return them home to get them help and heal them. Lord, open up doors to those seeking new job opportunities. Be with those experiencing lack of pay due to the government shutdown. Lord, feed those who are hungry, and provide financial assistance to those who need their bills paid. Lord, continue to help and provide for Jamaica and other islands, and islanders that were impacted by Hurricane Melissa. Lord, we pray for pending surgeries to be scheduled and successful. We pray for those who are mourning and ask that you comfort them in their grief.

Lord, open our hearts, eyes and ears to your truth and compassion, cover us in Jesus name. Amen.
